... of swine flu. Once I sneezed and everyone moved out of the way so I got a seat - bingo! I also had fun spotting fashion disasters. It´s that thing in non English speaking countries where the cool thing to wear is anything with a slogan on it in English. These slogans are invariably nonsense. I saw a woman wearing a striped hoody with ´'Kiss me I´m a pirate" written on it. What?? Then this woman was wearing some bright pink tracksuit pants and on the back of the waistband in ...

... under a steel-roof structure protected a recently-excavated house. After wondering around in the house for twenty minutes, with barely a let-up, we decided to press on to the Temple of the Sun, hoping to get a chance to climb to the top before the entire place closed at 5. As we moshed through sodden grass plazas, we started seeing flashes on the horizon, and before we knew it we were in the middle of a vicious, slightly worrisome lighting storm. After ...

Anche se in spagnolo ho compreso quasi tutta la narrazione dell'audioguida; la chiesa ce l'ha sempre avuta la mania del controllo e dell'annichilimento del pensiero ...

... choir if we would like to. We deferred not to. We filled out name badges and all of the members wore their name badges which made it helpful in our interactions with the parishioners. After a quick tour of the Church we took our seats and Fr. Long introduced us to the Archibalds. The service was primarily in English but the Gospel and prayers included Spanish. The Deacon Sibylle Van Dijk gave the sermon. During the announcements the visitors were asked to stand and introduce themselves ...

In fact I have become a garbage collector ok ok so that isn't news to most of ya that I amass stuff, well I've been finding found objects on my daily walks I have no idea how I will explain their presence in my suitcase at customs but I will do my best lol. So daily someone is creating something around here like Patrick from New York is building a coffee table out of toothpicks that will be left behind as a Thank-You. Sam(is the ...

The Colonial Heartland: Guanajuato & San Miguel

Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende are both colourful Colonial towns. The former a slightly shabby higgledy piggledy mess of multicoloured houses clinging onto the mountainside and the latter an ordered, well kept, cobbled streeted little corner of Spain. Guanajuato was teeming with people as the start of the Cervantino Arts Festival drew a young crowd while the latter was quieter and calmer - a US ex-pat haven ...

Sightseeing in San Miguel de Allende

... amazing. We later wandered to the library, which has a nice courtyard area and many small rooms full of English and Spanish books. It also has a nice little cafe and deluxe bathrooms! We met a lady named Maria Theresa who does private Spanish tutoring at the library and made a plan to meet with her for an hour on Wednesday. Later we visited the Mercado de Artesanias, where hundreds of people displayed their crafts and clothing for sale. Andy bought a really ...

... giving one gift to one person whose name we drew earlier in the week. With the exception of three gifts, one machete, one juice squeezer, and one wrestling mask, every gift exchanged was purchased for it's artistic quality, which I think is pretty cool. I know it sounds kind of crazy having eleven family members couped up in the same house for a week during the holidays, but it really was a lot of fun with few complications. One reason for this was ...
