From vines to hay and something about food

Today Daryl and I travelled from Najera to Santo Domingo, a distance of about 22kms. The most noticable thing about the walk was that the fields changed from grape vines as far as the eye could see to open paddocks where hay had been grown, cut and stored. The weather again was just perfect after a big storm during the night. We've just had another …

... Only later did they tell me there was no fridge and I would have to put the yogurt out the window to keep it cold. The hallway and bathroom lights were on a motion sensor so they flashed on and off all night as people walked through to the bathroom. There was about ten seconds of light in the bathroom before it went dark. A little inconvenient to say the least.

Great big washing line so took opportunity to wash ...

We were held up at the start as Richard's trekking poles were not in the bin where everyone dropped them the night before. Obviously, someone had picked up the wrong ones and when they realised their mistake did not come back. We spied an old English guy with the same poles and sidled up to him and asked aboiut his walking poles in general conversation. He said his daughter bought them for him ...

Walk to San Juan de Ortega

... most of the day, with a bit of up and down, but mostly just walking along the plateau, until we just as suddenly descended out of it and arrived here in San Juan de Ortega. This is a tiny village - the population is 20 or 25 depending on which book you read! There is, of course, an enormous and very beautiful church, and it is very peaceful. And there is no wifi. So I am writing up now while I remember our day, but will not be able to publish until Burgos which we walk to ...
