    ... was important back in the day as it was the Sicily's main defence from attacking ships. The harbour was pretty impressive and a huge golden statue of the Virgin Mary overlooks it. We drove to see a few lakes and this part of Sicily is really close to the Italian mainland and the region of Calabria.

    We had a leisurely day today, just walking around stopping to eat and drink. There weren't as many cars or motorbikes today so much more pleasant to walk around. Our first stop was in the beautiful piazza del duomo. The coffee was great and very reasonably priced.     ... exploration. It is a very touristy place but lovely. We came back to "Casa Arancio" and listened to the footy. Bad luck North. I went out and bought us some pizza by the slice for lunch.     ... waves breaking on the beach. (This beach is also a sandy beach.) We were sure we would get wet but the rain didn't come yet. We managed to have a good walk around and to buy some fruit for breakfast and to get back to the apartment before some rain.
