Finally the vacation begins, it is hot and beautiful in Greece! July 27, 2008 A very early start to the morning. I had to be at the ferry port at 6:30 am. Luckily the hostel was close to the metro station and I only had to catch one line to the port. There are quite a few people on the tour; about 40 with one guide. The ferry was huge and we had to leave our bags on the bottom level and head up to the top floor. It was a little unnerving but I had all of my important things with me so if anyt...

Mykonos

After a six hour ferry from Athens we arrived on the island of Mykonos where we were really looking forward to some r&r. The island is reknowned as a glitzy beach and nightlife destination for all types of people including backpackers, cruise shippers, and Greek tourists. We stayed right in the heart of the action at the Paradise Beach Resort. The beach here is a little different than what we were accustomed to - rather than fine white sand, the beach was small smooth pebbles. The only w...

Mykonos day 1

We left Santorini today and took a high speed ferry to Mykonos. Unbeknownst to us, it was spring break week for Greece universities so the island was packed. Our hostel was located on Paradise Beach and the hostel bar hosted a happy hour ever afternoon so we arrived to thumping techno music and people dancing on the bar. We walked along the beach and had a drink at the bar. Russell and Annie looking into renting jet skies, but it cost 40 euro for 15 minutes (a little too expensive). We decide...

Mykonos

You hear that the greek islands are georgeous with their clear mediterranean waters and white and blue buildings... well, Mykonos is everything we expected. It´s so beautiful here. We decided to stay a little away from town, at Paradise Resort. This resort also happens to be the absolute cheapest place to stay on the not so cheap island. We had our teensy bungalo (very hot although it got windy at night so it cooled off). But the best part about the place was every evening they played music a...

Greek Islands

I am a bit late in starting my travel logs, did want to do them as I went but anyway after Slovenia, Croatia and Poland we hit Athens. Rachelle and I had been clever and booked a flight that arrived in Athens at 3.40am and flew out to Mykonos at 6.15 am. That we did but our first flight was a whole day before the second so we made ourselves a little nest in an alcove under the esculators and behind the payphones, into silk liners, earplugs and eyemasks in place it was hotel athens airport! Pr...

... automatically react with a deep sound from your throat - ooooooh-zooo!!! - as you inhale and exhale."

Now it was our turn to check out the boat. Her name was Sea Party, perfect for us. Checking out the boat, we realized how cramped we were going to be, but for the trip of a lifetime we could deal with it. When we were told that no toilet paper could be flushed down the toilet, we were taken aback ...

Mosaics and Lions in Delos

... are still many columns as well as some interesting mosaics. Even with what remains, there is enough to get a good idea of what the island would have been like in its heyday. The best know sculptures on the island are a row of lions.

We anchored within the Bay of Delos and returned in the afternoon for lunch aboard. After we finished exploring the island, we boarded the yacht and returned to Mykonos for the evening. We went to shore and found a ...

A few days in Mykonos

... beautiful place with the village full of white-washed buildings scattered around a maze of little streets and alley ways. Just at it seemed that Santorini was made for couples, Mykonos was make for singles and the party life. This is one place that I want to return to again.

My Big Fat Greek Visit !

... s cabin. But, before you send us hatemail, we would like to reinforce, we Love ABBA! We even Love Meryl Streep! We think she's one of the best actors in the movie business! We just think that Mama Mia was one of the goofiest movies ever made. It reminded us of one of those goofy half hour sitcoms where characters would periodically break out in song. Fortunately, the networks did the right thing and saved us all ...

Cruising the Greek Islands

How on Earth did I get to be so lucky?

My family and I went on a cruise of the Greek Islands. We ate a lot, got sea sick once, soaked up the sun, and absorbed the classically beautiful white and blue colours on the islands. There weren't very much ship activities that my sister and I were interested in but Allyson and I did win a bingo game! Mykonos was by far our favorite island because of its beauty.
