I'm a lumberjack, OK?
Today we headed for Lake Louise and the Canadian Rockies proper. The Trans Canada Highway is a great drive and the scenery is every bit spectacular as I had hoped. Rives, Snow capped mountains the works!
Couple of unplanned stops along the way were quite fun. The first being the site near where the last spike in the Canadian Pacific …
The day got so much better after the coyote's butt
We needed to get an early start this morning as I wanted to be out at the the Icefields Centre 126 km away for the first tour to allow us to get back for our walk. The Icefields Parkway is another great drive. It runs from Banff to Jasper with some of the prettiest /wildest scenery you are likely to see. There truly is a postcard around every …
To the mountains!
With the truck packed with our camping equipment, we set off into the mountains! First stop: Takakkaw Falls. These falls were a lot more spectacular than New York's Taughannock Falls...Rylan suggested we climb alongside the raging water and within seconds we were soaking wet. Lucky we had some incredibly attractive, bright yellow raincoats to wear …
Into the Mountains
Left the big city of Edmonton towards Banff National Park. Travelled flat plains with ranches; rolling hills; and; then into the Rocky Mountains. Beautiful scenery all the way. Brief stop in Banff and then drove the Bow Parkway to Lake Louise. Stopped at Johnson Canyon to hike to the falls. Roger did 1.5 miles to the lower falls and Tom did 3.5 …
O' That Mountain Air
Started the day off in Banff. Tom got his glasses fixed, at least temporarily. Roger decided to get real and bought a pair of hiking shoes. We took the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain. Fast ride up to 7,500 ft. Great views. After lunch at Boston Pizza, we drove to Lake Minnewanka. Took a boat ride that was pleasant and informative. Did a short …

The log cabins were warm with gas fire and full catering facilities including micro-wave and fridge. However I think there are a lot of cheaper and better located cabins in the area. Even the Chateau had cheaper drop in rates for a room and these were alongside the lake and the hotel 5 star. Not good value to me as we had 3 nights in Bellagio in Vegas for $100 per night cheaper.
