The city itself is modern and uninteresting but it is the gateway to an island that is often spoken of. Time here is short and the weather still not perfect. From there we meandered through the streets and shops and slowly made our way back to our hotel to collapse for a few hours. Did I mention it was freaking hot!!!

Our evening meal was on our hotel's rooftop in the Herb Garden. The harbor was lit up with lights and a small fountain. Heraklion can't be called a pretty city but in the ...

... of life size good quality copies of his paintings in an old church in the square of the 4 Lions Statue. El Greco originally came from Heraklion so we enjoyed having a look at his famously elongated portraits of Christ. We were glad to get taken back to the ship to get a rest from the heat but later in the afternoon did venture back into the port of Agios Nikolais where the ship was moored. It was only a short walk ...
