Today we are taking 42 bags of olive/leaves mix to the processor to make some olive oil. The family usually uses the first batch harvested for its own consumption. This is the organic batch. The process starts by dumping the bags into collectors to go up the conveyors to a vacuum to extract leaves. As they fall, they are washed and after they water is separated, they go to the grinder. After being ...

Harvesting the Olive

Today we starting harvesting. The day of picking the olive off the ground are over. Today they use nets spread out over the area and the use a olive tree beater. They have three sons that help run the hotel and will help with the harvest on the farm. They have several hundred trees that they will harvest over the next couple months. It sounds like we will start harvesting in a few ...

They were the leaders in shipping and controlled the seas. There were several palaces on Crete and survived for about 3,000 years, before the volcanic eruption of Santorini whipped out the whole island around 1370 ...

... communities. Nobody really knows, as it was before 7,000 BC. Another interesting site, is the city walls and fortress of Heraklion. There is a massive wall measuring 11 meters deep that surrounds the city from the Venetian time frame. It was a major port where galleys were harbored and repaired in massive stone covered ...
