      ... On the drive home we picked up Grandma at the hospital where she'd had an appointment, then got home. Grandpa and Grandma invited us out for dinner at the Pioneer House (a classic!) and since they were going in about half an hour we decided why not. Had they been going any later we probably would have already been asleep.       ... just once or twice a year.
      Heading down, I came across a really nice area, where there was a gold Buddha and also red ribbons with Chinese symbols on them tied around the branches of the trees; I assume they were wishes. I wish I could read Mandarin. I walked on and managed to find my way off the main path and onto little paths through the forest that were totally secluded. It was awesome, and I spent a good few hours wandering, hearing only birdsong ...

      ... would be easy to find - well, the metro was easy to use because it was in pinyin as well as Mandarin, but once I emerged from the underground I had no idea! Wandered around for a while, down some lovely little streets with trees on either side almost forming a tunnel - I would see a lot of these here. The shops were selling very ornate things, like Buddhas, fans, and wall hangings. I didn't mind that I couldn't find the temple at that moment, it was nice just exploring ...

      ... pictures, was a taste explosion – so delicious! We walked through the park and then took the subway to the other side of the Pearl River. The metro system is modern, efficient and easy to use but oh, the masses of people. Two of the trains today were so crammed that when they arrived at the stop, nobody could get on.
