When I just arrived in Latvia, my colleagues asked me to organize a Dutch cultural evening. "You know, cook Dutch food, bring some Dutch items you brought with you, like a flag.." They couldn't believe me when I told them that Dutch cuisine is nothing to write home about, and that no normal Dutch person would be caught dead with a Dutch flag on them - except on Queen's Day and during football championships, of course.

... Although only on one floor the exhibits seemed to continue forever backwards- a surprisingly large building! Each section explained a different era and what was happening to Latvia at the time. It was very in depth but easy to follow and very well written in Latvian, English, German and Russian.
