        ... me of "Prince Valiant" so I was very happy! This island has a long history, and was a protective harbour for the Greeks when they were at war with Troy. It also produces wine, plenty of vineyards dotting the landscape...the Cabernet Sauvignon is very pleasant! We have eaten octopus, wild pickled plant ( don't know it's name), fresh beetroot, vine leaves, heaps of olives ...

        We asked about three bus companies how to get to Assos from Ayvalik...no one gave a direct answer...we didn't have our Lonely Planet map with us at the time so just had to trust the bus companies would get us where we wanted to go! After passing the turnoff to Behramkale, we started to think it might be a problem getting back...but what's the use of worrying? ...
