... We are not fans of cities and had our fair share of them last year, but at least I can say I have seen Salzburg now. Preferring scenery, we yesterday did the dedicated cycle path along the valley from the campsite - 14 miles there and back - and returned just before the rain started mid-afternoon and I dont think it has stopped since! Anyway, we have extended our stay by one day to get packed away - come rain, come shine - before moving on to Germany tomorrow ...

... gate that was guarded by a dozen or so cows, all with cowbells around their necks making an enormous racket. They paid us next to no attention as we passed through the gate. Shortly we came up to the first hut, but it was closed. No matter, there were more. At the top of the detour was the tollway, which was thankfully manned, so 10 Euros in cash later we were underway - all before we could even see the camper vans that were behind us. Just after the tollway the road descends into an enormously long tunnel, and when we popped out the other side we were on the other side of the alps. We pulled into Kitzbuhel about 4.30pm, and while we were tired and a little sore, the trip was surprisingly comfortable. After the 2 ...

Mike and Andrea take us south to Kreauz to a Waldfest (wood fest). This is a summer Bavarian festival with music, food and beer. The vast majority of attendees are in leather lederhosen and all of the women are wearing dirndls with aprons and lots of cleavage, if you don't know what I am referring to look at a bottle of St. Pauli Girl. The oom pa pa band is in full swing and the children are holding forth on the dance floor. The ...
