... Vienna opera house, street musicians performing in the streets. Vienna is a shoppers dream, which I would compare with London, Paris or New York. There is a street (actually 3 or 4 blocks) which is referred to as the "unaffordable street". We saw many well known stores: Mont Blanc, Louis Vuitton, Ferrari, Maserati, Tiffany, etc. We spent 3.5 days in Vienna, visiting the ...
... we had a drink at the bar and took our laptop down there where it works a lot better!! Tonight we walked down to what seems like a local social club. It was full of Austrians and they seem to be enjoying themselves. The meal was okay – I had fish but as you can tell it wasn’t outstanding. Doesn’t matter. Back in the room for planning for tomorrow and it doesn’t seem that noisy after all thank goodness.
3. Gipfelbahn: a huge gondola with only two large cars and two towers that took us up to the Gipfelwelt 3000, the building near the top of the mountain.
We first visited the "Top of Salzburg", the highest viewing platform in Austria at 3029 meters (9940 feet)! It was very cold outside at only 39 F, but we didn't care because the Austrian Alps were spread out before us.
We next went through ...
(The High Alpine Road with Mountains and Glaciers)
Today we drove the Grossglockner high alpine road, which goes through the Hohe Tauern national park. The road is named for the Grossglockner mountain, the highest in Austria at 3798 meters. The road is 48 km long with 36 hairpin turns, and ascends up and over a pass in the Alps called the Hochtor (high gate) at 2504 km. The Hochtor is also the border between the Austrian states of Salzburg and Carinthia.
... br> parallel to the main motorway (which appeared to be elevated on concrete piers
most of its route). The motorway was busy and even the local road was busy, Not
pleasant driving. This is a main north-south arterial route.
Stopped at Camping Corones. Luxurious site, with heated
sanitary facilities and a heated outdoor pool, but somehow we did not like it.
Full of Germans and very “ordered” parking.
