He greeted me with a smile and a blessing. ...

Constantinople! City of cities! I entered via Ataturk Airport, one of three airports, that serves a population of 15 million people, four million more than the entire population of Greece. It is a massive city. Straddling two continents, it bridges Europe and Asia. A visa is required to enter the country which I didn't have. No problem - I purchased one at a glass-enclosed kiosk next to the passport control guy - $30 U.S. dollars, please. ...
