One heck of a busy day!

A travel blog entry by kerrycrawford

We went thru the Aya Sofia (also known as the Hagia Sofia, then to the Blue Mosque (the only blue is on some of the tiles on the inside). Next we grabbed a bite to eat - and it was delicious! Got our bearings and started out on a trek. First stop, the Grand Bazaar where we browsed several hundred of the 5000 stalls. We then wandered all around the University to find the Suleymaniye mosque. A quick stop at the mosque before we headed back. But ...

San Francisco to Frankfurt, then on to Istanbul. Got here at 11 at night, to the hotel by midnight . We decided to take a late night walk. The city was alive! Packed with people, stores were open and they were filming a TV show right outside Hagia Sofia. We were to bed by 2:00 am and now ready to start our first full day in Istanbul. Well Jim and I are ready, no sign of Ian and Yvonne ...

I am sure that we actually got a touch of heatstroke, as Milly and I had dreadful headaches, and maddie refused to walk another step. I managed to get them to our destination with the promise of ice cream. We decided to venture up the subway line to Taksim Square, which is riot central ...

Last day in Istanbul

A travel blog entry by tuscany05

It was a leisurely start to the day. We only had two tasks on the agenda for today....visit the Mosque of Suleyman and the Spice Market. The Mosque of Suleyman was built in the 1500's by Turkey's greatest architect, Mimar Sinan. It almost outshines the Blue Mosque in its size, architecture and design. The interior is done in pastels in contrast to the blue tile work of the Blue Mosque. ...
