Today was much like yesterday. I slept in, Skyped the morning away, and spent the afternoon wandering around and checking out whatever store caught my fancy. Being Sunday quite a few market areas were closed, but enough was open to keep me entertained. I'm always keeping an eye out for a new hat, though nothing has quite caught my fancy yet. I've had to resist the temptation to buy a whole new wardrobe. My pack is full enough as it is. One of the highlights may have just ...

Today, after receiving an expert recommendation, I went out in search of a Wet Burger. Known as an Islak Burger to locals, these notorious late night snacks are simply burgers that have been marinated in tomato sauces to be well, wet. I of course had one for breakfast. I've booked an extra night here to better match up the dates for the Eurail Pass, which gives me a full week here. When I say Istanbul is the middle of my travels, I mean that both temporally and philosophically. Not only is it almost two months since I left New Zealand, but this is the dividing ...

Today I woke up at 5 am and said my goodbyes to my parents. I've been staying with them for almost 3 months now and it's been amazing to see them again. It may be a while before I see them, but when i do it will most likely be in their newly finished house.
When i get to the airport I'm one of about ten people there. I had a row to myself on the plane and the views over Corfu were amazing. I drifted off and by the time i woke ...

      Hello again, Blogonauts!

Back again with a messy mesh of memories of our stay in Istanbul.

Turkey is a secular democracy ... well ... in as much as the government of any country in Europe could be called secular. The Turkish constitution certainly does not guarantee the clergy seats in Parliament. (Surprisingly, the United Kingdom has Spiritual Peers, twenty-six Church of England bishops who retain membership in the House of Lords).

      But in the same ...
