We departed Rome on time at 7.50am and had a pleasant rail trip to Venice Mestre station where we changed to a coach for the trip to Villach. Train got up to 250kph in places and there were lots of tunnels. The Coach was very comfortable and the scenery very interesting as we left the plain behind and headed into the mountains. First we went the twisty way to the Kobarid Museum where we had a local guide to explain what happened on the Soca Front in WW1 from 1915 until 1917 when the Italian and Austrian armies were fighting in the local ...

Cycled east from the campsite, in Obervellach, to the
nearby lake, Pressegger See, then on to Gortschach and Vorderberg. Looked at
the Naturbad at Vorderberg and then cycled back Moderndorf and Hermagor where
we had a well earned “triple scoop” of ice cream each at the Patisserie/café in
the town centre. Quite a long ride in all. Both tired.
