We departed Rome on time at 7.50am and had a pleasant rail trip to Venice Mestre station where we changed to a coach for the trip to Villach. Train got up to 250kph in places and there were lots of tunnels. The Coach was very comfortable and the scenery very interesting as we left the plain behind and headed into the mountains. It took about 3 hours to reach Villach and we did not have to wait long to get picked up by Betttina, our home exchange contact. She drove us ...
We had consumed a considerable amount of carbohydrates and well...gelato in Venice so the previous night we had set an alarm to wake up and go running along the scenic river flowing through Villach. Cycled east from the campsite, in Obervellach, to the
nearby lake, Pressegger See, then on to Gortschach and Vorderberg. Looked at
the Naturbad at Vorderberg and then cycled back Moderndorf and Hermagor where
we had a well earned “triple scoop” of ice cream each at the Patisserie/café in
the town centre. Quite a long ride in all. Both tired.
