      Traveling Through Slovakia

A travel blog entry by flyfresno on Oct 29, 2014

... everyone around me was eating the same thing, and they all looked happy with it. When in Rome, I suppose... Back outside and waiting for my bus to Kosice, Slovakia's second largest city located just under fifty miles from the boarder with Ukraine, I couldn't help but gawk at the castle rising majestically over the city. In the mid afternoon sun, the lighting against it and the colorful buildings in the town below was almost perfect. But, unlike myself, no one ...

... we came back in time for dinner, the place was filling up and a Roma band was playing in the corner. Score! Deanne noticed a guy playing an instrument I'd never seen. "He's playing a Hacklrett!" (sp?) she exclaimed. A what? When she was an exchange student in Austria (when she was 16 going on 17.....) one of the guys in town played one of these things. It's like an open piano on it's side, like a harp, and the guy hits the strings with small hammers. ...

... don’t hesitate – come and visit this place!

Recently, however, there are more and more people there so sometimes it’s challenging to find a peaceful place but the Tatra Mountains are big and there are always nice, quiet and peaceful paths one can find.

'Zakopane is a very popular ...
