The Eagle has landed

... hour.

En Route our suspicions were arroused when Mike told us all that he had no Radar or SSB, both had been taken out by a lightening strike. Then we heard he had no electricity aboard as the Solar Panel controller was not working. Oh Oh!!!

We had a warm welcome aboard - Lola and Jen had prepared some lunch which we enjoyed in the cockpit under the awning.

It transpired that Bruce the tutor we were expecting, had ...

Second Last stop....

... of strong winds full of dust and rain. Not worth even going outside in. I spent this time watching Back to the Future in Italian, Walker Texas Ranger in Italian (they love it here), Simpsons in Italian, Scrubs in Italian, and wanting to punch the screen while Will Smith was talking Italian in Irobot!

After talking to Baker on the phone. Trying to get him to actually go somewhere but he won't because he is a **** mate. He told me that it seemed ...

The storm

... where there was a shop – well, the nearest shop of any description at all was 5 miles away, we are after all staying in a converted monastery. They had arrived by taxi last night and were considering not unpacking and leaving. I did feel for them a bit, because they seemed so lost – the fact that no one here seems to speak English was also a concern for them. They asked us what we had been doing during the week and we told them about our hire car ...

City under the sea

... beauty of its own. We found our way onto a dirt track again and pulled up into a bay where we sat and read and watched the sea in silence.

When we decide to make our way back we stop at the supermarket for more picnic supplies. The sun goes down around 7.30pm at the moment here and we were close to an area near the monastery where you can get down to the sea, so we sat there and ate our picnic and watched the sun go down.

Which way?

... beach. The sea was crystal clear and there were very few people around at this time of day as we set out along the shore. It was a long stretch of sand, which ended in some rocks and a couple of boats, which we couldn’t get around. We decided to take a path slightly inland and then spent the next couple of hours on the headland trying every which way to get either around or over it to get to the other side, but every path we took came to a definite end. We ...

A river too far

... realised he’d yelled “I’m going through” - he was half way through the river! Now I’m not a religious person, but I did look skyward for a brief second before looking back and seeing the river up to and passing the bottom of the car doors, water flying everywhere and suddenly and thankfully the wheels of the car finding the other side – he got through – that crazy husband of mine had done it! I got my trainers on and rock hopped across and ...

Not all roads lead to Rome

As we're starting our descent into Cagliari airport, there is one word to describe the view - Bella! It's beautiful. Sometimes you picture a place in your mind and it doesn't turn out to be what you expected, well this was everything I'd pictured and perhaps more.

Have you ever heard the saying 'all roads lead to Rome'? Well on Sardinia all roads lead to Sestu!

We picked the hire car up at the airport and then spent the next couple of hours driving ...

The Italian Job

... scenes as we biked through the village along the coast. Sardinia is quite underdeveloped compared to mainland Italy, there are only two main motorways (making a cross) and very small roads in the villages; you either have to have a car on the island, or ride a bike. The roads were not polluted with many cars and cheesy tourist shops, only a few kiosks and cafés. Tourists in Sardinia primarily come from Italy, needless to say, not many Sardinians speak ...

... meringue under the table so Granville started to run back for it. As we watched him get smaller in the distance we saw our waiter from the cafe running the other way to look for us with the dessert in her hand! All reunited again we had some dinner and then retired back to the hotel to pack as tomorrow we were all to leave Sardinia. It had been a great few days in a corner of Italy that none of us had ever been to before. The weather had been really kind and we ...
