During which, absolutely ear splitting sirens went off and everybody stopped stock still for a couple of minutes. The waiter said it was military, so guess it was a very loud verion of 2 minutes' silence.
I loved the Archaeological museum - the best I have ever been to for presentation ...
However, onward to Varna. We didn't expect to come across much en route so the lovely coastal scenery was a bonus. Green fields on cliffs above deep blue sea - it felt very Greek. There were even considerable stretches without that old Bulgarian favourite - dense trees that block any views of anything apart from more trees.
So the drive was beautiful, and we stopped in a tiny place called Kamchiya which is on a river ...

We walked through a flower market along one side of the cathedral, past a couple of antiques stalls round the front and then through a fruit, vegetable & flower market lining the pavement of the street in front of our hostel.

... feet! He had taken his shoes off to enter the circle. Quite minor luckily, with no blood. He was able to carry on walking after a couple of minutes.
On our way out we bought postcards and fridge magnets from the little shop at the entrance. The man there had sold us the tickets at the start, and now he kindly ordered a taxi for us - my Bulgarian is not great face to face, so I didn't want to risk it on the phone!
