... Finally we enter the mediaeval mountain town of Visso through an avenue of shady trees, and find our way to "Villacolle", our affittacamere (rooming house) a couple of hundred metres up the hill behind the town. It is a traditional Italian yellow painted masonry house, but apparently brand new, approached by a concrete driveway with lawns on either side. We are shown to a suite with a lounge, bedroom, and bathroom, and given cards which provide us ...

... San Francisco is gratuito and we decide to visit it on our way out of town, to see the rather special quattrocento frescoes by Gozzoli and others. First I need to alter the position of the cleat on one of my new bike shoes, because one foot has been giving me some grief. Once this is fixed, I pronounce these shoes a success. ... is unable to run away quickly enough, leaving sheets of water on flat areas. We arrive at Spoleto in thunder and hail and dash along the platform to the shelter of the verandah, with loaded bikes. As I pump up the tyres (let down for the flight), the rain abates. I often find on railway stations in Italy, bikes are a magnet for conversation. A few blokes watch, discussing the bikes and ask what I am doing, and where we have come from. One of them ...

Monday Third day here and everything is as good as ever in Bali. Beautiful Balinese who can't do enough for you to the point of being embarrassing. The Jayakarta Hotel is an "old Bali" style hotel that has everything you need except a hair drier. No iron either but the laundry rates are so cheap you'd feel miserable taking work away from these wonderful people. After Italy we've decided to veg and we're succeeding very ...
