Cali - very disappointing

... describe it , everyone was rather disappointed with Cali. The best part of my time in Cali was a trip to its fabulous zoo on my final day there ... went with a few other travellers from the hostel and everyone really enjoyed it . The zoo is situated in very pleasant grounds and all the animals seem to be well cared for and live in comfortable enclosures ... definitely far better than at the zoo I visited back in Medellin & it´s supposedly amongst the top zoos in Latin America ...

The airport and moving to my new home.

The city received me with a very hot weather, I was very impressive because the airport has many new things and it was in a better condition... later we began to move to the city, because the airport is about 40 minutes from the city. We move thought the city and there were some chaos, but was fine.. they have very large sidewalks, many trees and I saw a interesting transportation system but it was under construction....

Cali - Party and Salsa lessons. and not much else.

Not much to tell about Cali. Was told it was the plastic surgery and party capital of Colombia, but seems to be much the same as every other city in Colombia in both respects. Arrived last sunday to a ghost down and a near empty hostel, signed up for 12 hrs of salsa lessons for about $30, went to the zoo, went to the cinema, slept a lot, ate a lot, drank a lot, met heaps of cool people, got offered plenty of drugs, got ...

The journey to Columbia

We left our hostel on the morning of the 9th April and took a taxi to the bus terminal, or so we thought!!!! The taxi actually did not take up to the bus terminal, but dropped us at the bus company and then left. We then had to get another taxi across town to the terminal where we should have been dropped off in the first place. We made our bus just in time, it was pulling out as we arrived and one of the guys stopped it for us. So much for trusting taxis that the hostels order ...

Upward over the Mountain...

... also went to Juans farm and stayed the night... Then James and I headed off into the sunset up and over many mountains... that was a terrible bus ride to Manizales... very little sleep as it was so windy. So we found our hostel in Manizales and headed off to Chinchina and a coffee farm or hacienda to learn, in spanish, about coffee... I actually drank my first entire cup of coffee here and enjoyed it... We also wandered around Chinchina... my friend has since informed me its a ...

Week 21 - Salento to Cali

... card round neck and camera in hand (well...I had to look like I was a photographer...even with a digital compact) I strolled in with the gang from the hostel. We were seated in the press area. Some of us were even interviewed by the local TV station (thankfully not me...my cover as a press photographer would have been blown). Well, needless to say the girls walking around the pool wearing mere bikini's were gorgeous (with a capital Gorge). To name but a few, miss Colombia, Bolivia ...

Cali Colombia-Summary of Trip-Advice/Suggestions

... see my city in such a state. They are in the process of implementating el MIO, some kind of accordian buses i think which will replace all the old buses. But it's taking them forever to do it. I was happy to have gone through this experience and visit my family in the process. I can truly say that I am Americanized and that I appreciate our way of life and the things that I have 100 times more. It was struck fear into my ...

In the sultry heat of Cali

... cartels. (Colombia supplies 80-90%) of the world's cocaine). Kidnapping, robberies and sheer brutal murders have all contributed to Colombia making the headlines for the wrong reasons. It is now a lot safer but as were sitting on our Avianca (Colombian airline) flight from Bogota to Cali, we were acutely aware that this very flight was bombed in 1989 killing all 107 on board. Cali is Colombia's 3rd largest city and has hot sultry ...

Colombia

Colombia is a country full of surprises. The land was once inhabited by a host of ancient societies that left behind lost cities, elaborate burial chambers and tons of beautiful gold artifacts. Colombia is located in the north-west corner of South America and is the only overland gateway to North America. The Andes run throughout the middle of the country creating a region of high mountains and deep cayons. To the north is the Carribean ...
