Drove from Ella to udawalawe which was approximately 2.5 hour journey through an area rich with vegetable and rice crops. The rice was being harvested by hand and by mechanical harvesters. The area approaching udawalawe became more and more dry and parched. We stayed at Kalu's Hideaway, owned by the former cricketer, Romesh Kaluwitarana (little Kalu) who was the wicketkeeper in approximately 1996. His hideaway was a little oasis from ...

... the following day's plans before we got an early night. There wasn't air con in the room but the fan was absolutely fine. To be honest I didn't really sleep with the surrounding animal noises and being so excited.

I never understand why this kind of thing is allowed, as it will destroy the reason people come in the first place. If I wanted Benidorm, ...

... one o'clock!' Was quite far away even so I could see the sheer size of these amazing mammals. Once they dove down (showing off their tails whilst doing so) we then waited 10 to 15 mins till the next time they come up for air. I then had an omelette sandwich and by the time I finished the second blue whale was spotted 'six o'clock!' This time closer. I could see the spray from the blowhole. Whilst raja was really good at given the whales space the other boats were speeding up ...

... br> Barberyn Reef Resort is set on a long strip of beach with a reef running the length of the property, forming a natural swimming lagoon. The resort has a casual and serene ambiance which I am told guests seem to absorb after a while. I am in a garden room which is comfortable and furnished in wood and natural materials with a balcony overlooking the pool and garden. The furniture is made at the resort by ...
