... to rent a car when I saw people today worrying about survival.
The morning began like any other...I woke up in my Russian hotel, had a Russian breakfast with about a dozen Russians, watched what I presume to be Good Morning Moscow on tv in the breakfast room and was wondering what in world I was going to do all day. My 7am walk into town led me by chance to a sign for the buses to Nicosia and one was going at 9am. With my bags in storage at the ...
... on this ride since it was a taxi. The girl at the front desk was no help at all when I asked if there are tours or if I could rent a car in town. Every one of my questions was met with a shrug, and "Maybe, maybe not." I am thinking, this is an English speaking island, is it not? What gives. Turns out she is from Latvia and the hotel is Russian owned or something so I forgive her for her limited English skills. This is the first time I haven't stayed in a ...
Larnaca, Cyprus atlpilot36Where Shopping is a Pleasure. Isn't that Publix's slogan? I found a grocery store called Billa where shopping may not be such a pleasure but their checkout stand can put you on a road to some. Now visualize the g rated checkout stand at Publix. All the "racy" tabloids are covered up because God forbid should someone steal a glance at Britney Spears sans panties. Besides, our magazines but a big black rectangle over anything worth looking ...
Larnaca, Cyprus atlpilot36All packing and cleaning is underway !!! Only 36 or so hours left before we hit the tarmac at Larnaca !! Just need to get the dog wormed and de-flead (not that he has them !), groomed and then buy him a travel box for the flight !
Fingers crossed all our accommodation arrangements have been made for Athens and Samothraki !
... all just fit and seemed perfect. On the return to Paphos we spotted
the spot where Aphrodite was born from the sea and her temple up on a
cliff. It was a very long day but one filled with several
interesting sites. I almost forgot...in Larnaka we happened upon the
church of St.. Lazarus where he was finally laid to rest.
... and old buildings. We
began to come across check-points to cross the green line. For those
of you who are unaware, Nicosia is the last divided capitol in the
world. Half of it is on the Turkish side of Cyprus and half on the
former Greek side. For years it was very difficult to cross from one
side to the other but fortunately regulations have eased and it was
easy to pass through. This meant the first half of the afternoon was
in Cyprus and the second ...
Ok so today we flew from Amman Jordan to Athens Greece...I about slapped the **** out of the Cypress airlines representative at the check in counter when he told me we had to pay $500 Jordanian dinars (equivalent to about $700 AMERICAN DOLLARS) due to our luggage being overweight! Yes folks almost seven hundred fricken dollars. Apparently there is some stupid ass luggage weight limit of ...
Larnaca, Cyprus jgrivetti... is certainly a great place to vacation in the early fall. Late October and early November was still quite warm to our standards, but the tourist season was over for Eurpeans so it was a good place to vacation as it was moderately priced.
... get to stop in the UK for a week. Then USA too is a bigger stop. David has managed to learn more Greek which is great. We should keep it up when we are at home. I think the best way to learn a language is when you are "thrown into the deep end". But every place we have been, someone else (other than me) is able to talk to David in English. I have enjoyed the old archelogoical sites too, as I imagine what it must have been like to live ...
Larnaca, Cyprus psycikListening to: Camper Van Beethoven, Anthology Reading: In The Pond, Ha Jin After resigning my position, I needed a logical place to begin my trip and that is Cyprus. After about 3 years, I am ready to leave the island but was pleasantly surprised by the good times had and friends made. I must say that I fought tooth and nail to stay off the island. In the end, I found love and friendship there in a laid back environment which suited my heavy ...
