... upwards through hairpin bends, the side of the road covered with prickly pear, bougainvillea and oleanders. The jacaranda trees were in bloom in the city and the jacarandas here bloom twice a years here. The views as we drove along were great but nothing to see at the spot the bus dropped us, there were of course many stalls selling the usual souvenirs. ... but certainly not small! We find our chosen marina, well tucked in away from the winds and squeeze ourselves in between 2 boats in a quiet corner so nice and safe when it blows tonight. A quick walk around the town and we are pleasantly surprised at how clean and smart it looks compared to Palamero so all is not lost for Sicily. Photos to show! ... the front comes in, so a quick run around the old town was in order. Pleasantly surprised once we were pacing out as some very interesting old buildings and very lush gardens. We even managed to get a special shot of a local beauty specially for Steve Dacosta!! Apologies if it offends anybody else but could not miss the opportunity. Alison and Scott stay on board and plan their next adventure - off to Venice for a few days ...
... We both had the sea bream; Eldon's was loaded with three different roasted nuts and placed on an olive tapenade; and mine was done with a really light but crispy crust. Both plates came with a small dollop of mashed potatoes and a side of really nice mixed vegetables. We also shared a lovely bottle of local red wine--frappato grape. Eldon's first course was four different appetizers from this area. We shared, of course. We had bruschetta, a serving of fried chickpeas flour-like pancake, another mixture of eggplant, olives, capers and tomatoes on bread and we can't remember the fourth. But all of them were very good.
