Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

We arrived there in the pouring rain. We tried to wait it out, finally found WiFi and searched for hostels. We did find one a bit of a distance away. We ran/walked fast through the rain to find it. We were slightly frustrated at the continuance of rain. At one point we just sat underneath ...

After waving Michelle farewell I went and bought my ferry ticket to Varenna then visited the nice man in the cafe below our apartment for one last omelette and cuppa. He asked where my friend was. Awww, I said Ciao to him from Michelle and gave a small tip. He acted like I gave him a bar of gold. What a lovely friendly man and nice food ...

... took photos with the group. Back on the bus to the hotel in Lake Maggiore (called Grand Dino), back by 4.30pm, rest the out to a restaurant nearby for dinner with a few of the group, Peter had seafood pasta and I had vegetarian cannelloni. Bought bracelets for gifts back home, walked through to the sister hotel ...

... and located the platform from where we were to leave (there are many platforms to choose from so thought it best to be sure we had the right one).

Once we had breakfast, we walked with our three suitcases, back pack and overnight bag to Platform 5 and as it turned out there were passengers just before us who were having problems with the bags, so we waited 'til that was sorted. We boarded the train just as the last call was made; yes we were the last ...
