Historical Traveler Reviews of Palatin Hotel Jerusalem
Durchschnittliches Hotel, ausgezeichnete Lage
from prasenberg
Average hotel, excellent location
from prasenberg
This hotel is just around the corner from Ben Yehuda Street and Jaffa Street and it is about a 10 minutes walk from the old city of Jerusalem. You can't get much better than that. Having said that, the hotel itself has a few issues. My room was on the second floor, which looked a bit scruffy. It could do with some fresh paint and a new carpet. The room was about the same. The view was an old appartment complex in serious decay, the bathroom was quite small, the bed not particularly comfortable and the room too could use some renovation.
The breakfast was OK, but nothing special. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One plus was the wifi which worked like a charm and was free. Would I stay here again? I'm not sure. The location and the wifi are great, but the room was one of the least attractive I've stayed in for a while.
Palatin Hotel

Friendly, helpful staff. Good location near to the great restaurants in New Jerusalem. Free wi-fi in the breakfast room, and in the lower rooms (but not on the higher floors).
Clean, but scruffy. On a quiet side street, but the noise from the busy King David's Road can be heard, as can the cars coming out of the car park opposite, and there is no double glazing. Views are of a garbage filled parking lot. Quite expensive for what you get, compared to European standards, but the rest of New Jerusalem is expensive too, so it might be about right. Heating inadaquate in winter.
Nice hotel, kind & helpful staff

I stayed in the Palatin hotel for 5 nights and will do so again next time I will be in Jerusalem. The hotel is located 25-30 min walking from the old city, 30 min from the Israel Museum and 1 min from Yafo & King George st., where you can find many places for lunch and dinner, and from where you can take a bus to other parts of the town. The sherut from Ben Gurion & Tel Aviv has its last stop 5 min walking from the hotel. The staff is very kind and helpful and will book excursions and sheruts for you.
My room was good and clean and big enough. Breakfast was buffet style and also good. For this type of money you can not expect more.
I can highly recommend this hotel.

Couldn't be better! Don't pass this up!

This hotel is steps away from Jerusalem's liveliest streets but isolated by a pedestrian-only promenade. Therefore, you're in the best location you could hope for without the annoyance of traffic and noise.
The outside of the hotel is boring and unimpressive but once you step inside and follow the red carpet to the front desk upstairs, you'll know you've made the right choice. I read a review complaining about how there are no elevators and how this was problematic for travelers with heavy suitcases-- not to worry! The front desk staff is happy to help you carry your luggage.
The family run ambiance is apparent but not chaotic. There is a homey feeling in the dining room, decorated with French cafe pictures and bright sunny wallpaper. Breakfast was fresh and varied. There is a little balcony that is a great lookout-spot, just off of the main lobby. A great place to sip coffee before you start your day.
I thought my room was very cute, with minimal but flowy decor. The windows have thick, roll down shades if you want to block out the intense Israeli sun but also whimsy curtains if you want to let the light in. Beds were comfortable, space was sufficent, you bathroom was compact but fine, with two little rubber spots on the floor for your heels (when you're standing at the sink, its a nice touch!) Adequate supply of extra pillows and blankets.
The front desk staff when out of their way to give us advice, call taxis for us, arrange a tour of the Dead Sea and just generally chat with us.
This place feels like an inn, so if you are the type of traveler who seeks the cute and the quaint of new places, stay at the Palatin. I highly recommend it.
Great value, excellent service

After a week in Haifa, we made a last minute decision to go to Jerusalem before returning home and found the Hotel Palatin on the internet. We did not know what to expect except that it was in Jerusalem close to the major sightseeing attractions.
We arrived at 10.30pm on a Saturday night and were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is small but very centrally situated in Agripas street, just off Strauss and one block away from the main street, Ben Yehuda. Our room was on the first floor, with a good view of the pedestrian traffic and some shops and restaurants. The hotel is family owned, has a warm atmosphere and the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was clean and comfortable and the typical Israeli breakfast (especially the coffee) was fresh and tasty. Although not your typical large hotel, overall the Palatin is good, comfortable and convenient tourist accommodation in the heart of Jerusalem.
Oy Vey!

Having had trouble securing a hotel room during the busy Passover season, The Palatine was one of the only options available to us. CLearly there was a reason why every hotel in Jerusalem was sold out except this one. After walking up two extremely long steep staircases with luggage, we then had to walk up two more long staircases to get to our room. (Pity the poor guests who were on the floor above us). The hall was the most disgusting I have seen anywhere; long, narrow, smelly and painted various hues of orange. I guess the room was OK, but clearly a "one star" type of room that was kind of yucky around the edges and tiny.
Great Option

My boyfriend and I needed a last minute room during Passover for one night in Jerusalem. The pickings were thin so we were nervous. We were, however, very pleased with this hotel. We spent the extra $15 or so for the "superior" room and it was quite large. The room and bathroom were both clean, which is our most important criteria. We walked to the Old City on both days, as well as several places in West Jerusalem; Great location. [Make sure you have waffles at Babbette's Party in Kikar Zion...of course it was closed for Pessach but I tried them a week earlier...divine]
The hotel had wifi which was a nice added convenience. We were able to park cheaply at a lot that was essentially right across the street. The hotel itself has no lot of its own.
The breakfast was good and had enough selection for the two of us to grab a bite before a long day filled with lot of walking.
In sum, a great budget option in Jerusalem.
Comfortable, welcoming Jerusalem hotel

Was having trouble finding an affordable hotel in Jerusalem over the Succot festival - rates at most hotels are lifted somewhat and available discounts disappear. Booked this hotel and was concerned that none of the regular travellers to Jerusalem knew of it.
Anyway, arrived at a real oasis. Whilst it is nondescript from outside, being above some shops (it is easy not to see it), the rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable and reasonably quiet (hotel is from 1930s). The staff were very friendly and the casual atmosphere is very friendly. The breakfast included is adequate, although not available till 8am, which was a too late for us on a couple days. Eating on the (small) balcony was fun.
Hotel is close to Ben Yehuda St and easily accessible to most Jerusalem sights. Mechane Yehuda market is close for good, fresh food and the buses are easily accessible
