... who ‘sensed’ that something bad was going to happen at the school behind the girls’ house. The women spent the night chanting, singing and banging to ward off the bad spirits and any sleep I might have had otherwise. It was quite creepy, the way they sat around a huge tree with few lights making weird noises, but not surprising. Nothing surprises me in this country anymore!

... drumming does get under your skin here! It makes you feel alive, as the dancers well knew, shaking their barely covered bottoms. The presidents finally arrived in a mass of media and security to a great welcome cheer but were ushered past the crowd. We found that no ferries were leaving until the presidents’ departure which meant that there was no getting off the island… We went for a wander before returning to the port. We only have about 10 more days with our host families. As this time is ending it is almost bitter sweet. The first day that we were sent off to live with these strangers, many of us about in tears, we were told that in fact one day we will miss these families and become excited as time nears to return from the training ...

The morning passes by on a flash and it's time for lunch. At lunch we met a portuguese group. It's their first day. We gave them some hints about the place and told them about our experience.

After dinner we always take a walk inside the hotel premises and by the beach. Outside there's virtually no light at all, so that's why we don't go out very far. After that, it's time to go to bed...
