Chicken sacrafices and fun salsa nights.Great Time

... this. Then ceremoniously he took a sip of water. All this was happening with the backdrop of a wall covered in statues of brightly painted saints and a statue of Jesus surrounded by tacky, flashing neon lights.
I sat down on the floor (there were no churches) to watch the chanting lady. Even though it looked like she was in a trance, when someone else from the church would walk past she should stop and have a chat, check the time, and all of a sudden ...

Finally a place to cool off

... as the indigenous people believe it steals their spirit. Wide angle shots and panoramas are okay, but no close-ups.
The youth hostel was great. They had free breakfast and bonfires at night and it only cost $6 a night. I met people from all over the world. I haven´t met many Americans, why is that? I did meet three guys from Eugene though.
More about San Cristobal in the next blog.

I've become addicted to street food and adding a good dollop of chilli sauce seems to keep the bugs away. Later I go off to the 'tortillera' and buy myself a bunch of freshly made tortillas, hot, some tomatoes, chillies, onions, corriander and avocados and go back to the hostel to make my own tacos.

Dressing up in the Mexican Highlands

... a christmas tree, where in the raining season a waterfall of highly calcified water flows. As with many cities in Central America, with a higher density of tourists you tend to find more people (especially children) begging for money or trying to sell you their wares... this can be anything from batteries or chiclets gum to a pair of beaten-up shoes, to beautiful and expertly made handicrafts. About 8pm on Valentine´s ...

Vaikka vääränlaiset vatsamikrobit olenkin onnistunut toistaiseksi, uskomatonta kyllä, välttämään niin Puerto Angelissa otin pienen rehellisen välikuumeen, joten Päivi joutui lähinnä käymään yksinään biitsillä paikallisten vihellettävänä. Although i knew that this is what the church employs this kind of ways to convert people, i was shocked to discover their behaviour with the Mayas. We also went around the markets, entered a house of one of the chiefs of the town, and were told that people here only live among themselves and don´t accept anyone else but indegenous in the village. They have their own ...

It was really great to see some friednly faces for a couple of days even though we were extremely jealous of their five star hotel!! We then headed to the top of the Yucatan to explore the world famous Chichen Itza which unfortunately paled in comparison to its contemporaries. Another gruelling overnight bus journey later and we were in Chiapas, in a town ...
