Finding our feet in Saigon

We don't meet up with our cycling tour group from Grasshopper Adventure Tours until later this evening, so we take a half day tour to see the Cu Chi tunnels. As we wander through the tunnel area, our tour guide explains something of the US/Vietnam war – from their perspective. Not surprisingly, it is different from what has been portrayed by …

Good holidays come in different forms. Some are relaxing and rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. Others challenge us with new places and varied experiences. This holiday we find ourselves joining a cycle tour in Vietnam.

Before going to the airport, it is well worthwhile trying to book in on-line. Once at the airport, it is a simple …

HCM in 2 1/2 days

We started off with a nightmare checkin process at the Palace Hotel. The rooms were that small that I had to put my cas in the batchroom as there was no room. After some heated discussion they moved our room the nest day to the delux room I had paid for in the 1st place.
Day 1 in HCM we went for a walk to the Ben Thranh Market to by mum a …

That night at Ho Chi Minh City after getting back from Can Tho, we had free time so my two friends and I really wanted to get massages. A few guys had already gone to this one place called Armani a few nights back so we went there. The massages were UH-MAZING! The masseuse crawled all over me hehe. She was so little. Yet so strong…. She …

Saigon: Just Keep on Walking

So after a short flight from Kuala Lumpur, we landed in Ho Chi Minh City. So many motorbikes! And the streets are so small, it's like playing Frogger to get from one side of the street to the other. But the true way to get across is to just keep on walking. The bikes will go around you. You have more of a chance of getting hit if you try to go …

    Honest Hotel

On arrival, tried to pay the taxi driver who very honestly returned my 6,000 dong as payment is made at the hotel. On departure, I left my clear plastic wallet in the room with a $100 which was returned by the cleaning staff as I checked out. When we went back in the evening to collect our bags, I discovered I had also left my adaptor and iphone recharger in the room! Again, all returned with a smile! such honesty.

    Very Small Rooms

Though I had paid for a Superier Dlux room they gave us the smallest room in the hotel on the 1st night. Not until I made a little noise did the manager get involved and we were given the room paid for the 2nd night and a free banquet seafood lunch.
I found the front desk lady rude and arrogant and ensure for our stay that I did not deal with her. The plus side of the hotel is that it is in a good location, has a pool, and walking distance to most things.
It is old and a little run down but it is also HCM.

Credit card and discount coupon hassles

Charged credit card $10 to validate it. Hassle with discount coupons at bar (we used them 3 minutes early, so they would not honour them).

Restaurant is buffet style, slow to get drinks. Food is OK but not notable.
