Ho Chi Minh City, Royal Palace hotel, Hotel Address: 56-66 NGUYEN HUE BLVD, HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM. We fly tonight at 18:50. Last night we went out for a few drinks and bumped into the Brummie, Tony (whose local is the Wagan and Horses in Halesowen for those of you that know it) and the Londoner Gary. We meet them back in Silnockvile on …
Beggars Can't Be Choosers
Yesterday morning we went back to the Ben Thanh Market where I tried some durian fruit. Yes, it is pretty bad... I don't know how people eat that stuff. It smells rancid and the texture is like a rotten banana. The taste? I can't even really describe it. Later we took a cab to the Jade Emperor Pagoda. It was very colorful inside and out with many …
Le and the Mekong Delta
This morning we started our journey to the Mekong Delta. The scenery was beautiful and very green! We made our way to the little town of My Tho where we then got on a small wooden boat and road along the river. First we were taken to a little village that grew all kinds of fruit. They had a table set up for us with fresh mango, longan, papaya, …
Miss Siagon
We traveled from Hoi An to the airport in Da Nang and then flew to Ho Chi Minh city.
The weather finally became nicer with mildly over cast skies and 27 C.
Normally our travel days are a little lighter, but our guide Vo had us going all day.
We saw the outside of the Reunification palace where the south Vietnam …
Temple of the Divine Eye and tunnel towns
Road trip today to visit a few sites outside of Ho Chi Minh city.
Our first stop was at the fascinating Cu Chi tunnels. The Vietnamese dug an estimated 2000 km of tunnels during the French and American wars frequently completely surrounding entire bases. The area is now a war memorial park and preserved by the Vietnamese government.

On arrival, tried to pay the taxi driver who very honestly returned my 6,000 dong as payment is made at the hotel. On departure, I left my clear plastic wallet in the room with a $100 which was returned by the cleaning staff as I checked out. When we went back in the evening to collect our bags, I discovered I had also left my adaptor and iphone recharger in the room! Again, all returned with a smile! such honesty.

Though I had paid for a Superier Dlux room they gave us the smallest room in the hotel on the 1st night. Not until I made a little noise did the manager get involved and we were given the room paid for the 2nd night and a free banquet seafood lunch.
I found the front desk lady rude and arrogant and ensure for our stay that I did not deal with her. The plus side of the hotel is that it is in a good location, has a pool, and walking distance to most things.
It is old and a little run down but it is also HCM.

Charged credit card $10 to validate it. Hassle with discount coupons at bar (we used them 3 minutes early, so they would not honour them).
Restaurant is buffet style, slow to get drinks. Food is OK but not notable.
