Palace Hotel Ohrid

Hallo zusammen,

bin vor 6 Uhr aufgestanden um den Bus nach Bitola zu erwischen. Dies war eine bedeutende ottomanische Stadt mit einigen Konsuln aus anderen Laendern. Daher gibt es einige nette alte Gebaeude, einige Moscheen und einen kleinen Basar, wie ihn jede islamische Stadt hat.

Die Stadt ist natuerlich nicht uebermaessig gross, hatte 3h Aufenthalt, neben der Stadt gibt es allerdings noch eine weitere Sehenswuerdigkeit 2km ...

anbei noch einige Nachtaufnahmen aus Ohrid. Endlich weiss ich, dass ich mein Trauma vom Raubueberfall ueberwunden habe, wenn ich durch eine dunkle osteuropaeische Stadt wandere:-)

Mazedonien ist seit Januar 1992 unabhaengig, das einzige Land aus dem Ex-Jugoslawien, aus dem die jugoslawische Armee ohne Kampf abgezogen ist. Trotzdem ist das Land nicht ohne Probleme, die Griechen moegen den Namen nicht (mehr als die Haelfte des historischen Mazedoniens liegt heute in Griechenland, der Flughafen von Thessaloniki heisst auch Mazedonischer Flughafen ...

... the cobblestone roads to the fortress are great. The pace is slow and relaxing. There is a great path that winds in and out of the beaches on its way to a great old church. The old man giving us a tour is delighted that we are so interested and offers us Raiki (a local brandy).

After some rain, a beautiful rainbow appears.

... The staff was excellent. Highly recommended. With 8 guests, it was about 25% full. They take our passports. Hotels are required to submit the names of guests to the police for tracking.

We run into Celine, one of our drinking buddies from Tirana. She has had food poisoning and sleeps for the next 18 hours. I spend the afternoon catching up on my blog (WiFi – yeah!) while enjoying the amazing view.

Only 1 seven hour bus ride today to Struga plus a 15 minute cab ride I shared with an Italian from Struga to Ohrid, of course I traveled only 130 miles! Once again I have rented a room in a private house which had internet, unfortunately I was engrossed in following the play by play updates of the Men's Wimbledon Final that I didn't have chance to cut and paste my blog entries before the internet cut off ...

Unfortunately I learned too late that Al did have a bed for me - 2 guests were no shows, the cardinal sin of hospitalityclub/couchsurfing. so we made plans for me to spend the next night at his apartment. It is so weird to go from all these places that are sick of tourists to a place like this that rarely has English speaking tourists. This town is also beautiful.
