After visiting the Mountain Resort yesterday, today was all about serious temple hopping ie. going to the temples around the perimeter of the Mountain Resort, ie. the Wai Ba Miao, Eight Outer Temples : http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attract ion/hebei/chengde/eight_temple.htm

Today was a combination of jumping off and on city buses and long'ish walks between/to the temples.

... or the snow of Winter to look travel brochure spectacular) as the flora was getting on the brown "Winter around the corner" side. Nonetheless, it was a pretty nice place and regardless of the lotus leaves in the ponds being dried up brown and wilted, the intriguing historic element remained and grabbed my interest as always.

... busride so far in terms of "out of the window scenery", passed by some Great Wall sections too but wasn't on the ball with the camera to catch it.

... head to the Punning temple. The main attraction made my jaw drop.  The mindbogglingly vast gilded statue of Guanyin (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy) towers within the main Hall. The effigy  is astounding, over 22m high. Guanyin has 42 arms, with each palm bearing an eye and each hand holding instruments, skulls, lotuses  and other Buddhist devices. outside people were burning incense and candles in worship and monks were offering prayers, ...
