From Naples to Sigonella, Sicily

A travel blog entry by joshualyon on Dec 05, 2014

I was trying to catch a flight to Shannon from Sigonella NAS, so I fight an overnight ferry from the port of Naples, to the port of Catania. From there I took a cab to the NAS. The flight to Shannon was canceled, so I am doing the waiting game thing again. I need some rest, so I am staying in an actual hotel room for the night. Bnb booked hire car to airport 45€ 30 mins. Driver "didn't have change" so cost 50. ****** off. Easy check in with Vueling - a BA subsidiary based in Spain. Airport newish but not large and limited food and shopping. Tightest seats I have been in on a plane- knees hard against front seat, but only 1.15 hr flight and cost 220€ Return for 2. Fantastic view of Mt Etna on descent. 45€ taxi ride to town- had to detour cause festival in midtown for ...

We had dinner with our lovely American friends from the other night and then we all went dancing until midnight. As each day passes, I'm increasingly concerned about how we are going to cope once we leave the ...

... the people are so friendly and happy. The highlight not to be missed sight was the Ancient Greek Theatre - Teatro Greco which is one of the largest of its kind and is still used today in Summer for performances.

  • Yesterday when we left I was really sad to leave and think that is a sign of a really good place when you feel that way!
  • By the way Catania airport is terrible, to be experienced to be believed, but that is another story! J
