Split - quiet but good weather

... so a lot of people in Split would have gone back to their villages or home town for the weekend.
Also explains why the graves in Zagreb looked so good the day too.
Went to Gaga which the barman at the first bar said if any place would be busy, that place would be and it was dead.

Saturday walked around the market, got Burek for breakfast and then up a bunch of stairs to get a good look over Split.

What we thought would be a vacation...

... it was the perfect time to be sick. We just watched movies on his laptop, American shows on the TV with 2 channels (Friends, Xena Warrior Princess…), cooked, and played Chess on our mini travel set. Overall, it was nice to relax but I know I started feeling a little bored.

Saturday came around and the storm was clearing (only a little bit of rain and clouds that morning). We then hopped on a ferry to another island, called Korcula.

... the town just around the bend and there is a promenade that we are looking forward to walking along…we are also hoping for some seafood for dinner!

This campsite is along the coast of Croatia just before the bigger town of Split. Yesterday, we drove from our campsite near Zadar along the coast for a couple of hours and found this spot…we wanted something that was close to a small town and also to Split, but ...

Well those were the towns and lets just say that Croatia is a beautiful country. Many a time it was I could take a photo of this and that (which I did) and just having heaps of fun. Made a heap of friends who luckily live in London so there will be plenty of catchup drinks in the near future.

Sail Croatia .... do it .... hell yes ... but maybe about 2 months earlier, so that when you swim it will because it is damn hot and not just because you felt obliged.

Hitchiking thru Croatia

... kid trying to get back to Split hopped in Alex's car. Alex was going halfway to Split, but ended up driving us all the way. That's and hour and half past his destination and an hour and a half back. Thanks man!

During the car ride, the girls and I decided to go to Trogir (just outside Split) together so we got off. The American kid rode on with Alex. I found a hostel and the girls camped ...

A visit to Trogir

... and crowded trip home, I consoled myself with the fact that I was enjoying far more of the local 'colour' this way. That was until it dropped us at the edge of town rather than in the middle where we had caught the bus in the morning. Then I consoled myself that the walk would do me good and help to use up some of the pasta energy from lunchtime. Then it got colder and I ran out of consolation. When we arrived back in the old town it was to find that almost every shop ...

... considered his question. 'Yes' Jess said. This appeared to phase the rude waiter momentarily, so he countered with 'So what you going to eat?'. 'Do you have a menu?' I asked. 'Yes, we have breakfast.' he replied. 'How many you want? One, two three, four?' I'm nothing if not perceptive, because my radar was telling me that there was something annoying him (see, clever AND perceptive, that's me). 'Are these bags OK here?' I asked him. 'No, bags should not ...

... cocktails and shots especially our flaming B52's. Eventually we found a bar to dance at and although tiny we busted our moves and then busted off with 3 of their wine glasses for future Italian camping needs. On our last day in Croatia we headed with minimal Kuna to Split to await our overnight fairy to Pescara in Italy. After waiting 7 hours to board our ferry we finally waved goodbye to the lights of Split unenthused about being deck passengers on an overnight ferries.

... televised finals in the search of the Croatian miss Universe contest, naturally we felt we had to stick around. The usual things went on, assumably the "I love working for charities, walking down beaches hand-in-hand and want to change the world" speeches in Serbo-Croat, the evening gown strut and the swimsuit strut. This was disrupted by intermittent displays of trashy Croatian pop music, utter hilarity to watch. Once our enthusiasm was starting ...

... what that brings, though..... We are staying in a private room (a Sobe) in Trogir, which is the cheapest accommodation other than camping. For 20GBP a night we have a room that is clean and central and nice and quiet. The other alternatives would be to pay 45GBP+ a night for a hotel - Croatia is not a cheap destination and food and beer is almost the same price as in the UK, so we have been spending quite a bit here. But it's nice, so who cares..... Onward and downwards.....
