... some impromptu ones as well.. We saw rainforest, waterfalls, coastal scenery and much more as we circled Haleakaala Volcano. We could swim at the Ohe'o Pools but we chose not to as it was quite risky getting down to them. We had a very narrow section where it was only the bus width between the cliff wall and a dizzying drop to the ocean below. We also had about 5 miles of unmade road. ... about 40 miles. It offered a place to get a drink and more importantly go to the bathroom.
We continued our trip, taking pictures along the way. At about 6:30pm, we arrived back to Katana and had dinner before going back to the condo.
We have now pretty much covered the island. Our plan now is to spend more time in the water.

Over on the beaches the surf was really pumping. We managed to get some shots between the showers. The boys wimped on surfing but so did everyone else as you can see there was no one in the waves at approx. 2.30pm. A bit unusual as a market stall seller said that there are normally about a dozen surfers in the water at this time.

Uneventful and smooth boarding of the cruise ship, Pride of America yesterday, although Al did get his bottles of wine that were stowed in his luggage confiscated!! Didn't read the fine print! Cabin (stateroom) very roomy, plenty of drawers and cupboards. And we have a balcony!! First dinner was beautiful, steaks cooked to perfection! Hope our Weber can replicate these when we get home! We stayed out by the turtle a long time, just hanging in the water, we both started to get cold. This time we headed for shore and went all the way in.
It was so much fun to sit on our hot rocks drying out and talking about the octopus and turtle. I cannot believe we saw an octopus! This bay is known for spinner dolphins, but we didn't see any. It's probably a good thing because I don't think I could have taken much more excitement. ...
