We hiked, we ate, we smelled sulphur

Pagosa Springs is named after a very hot, bottomless, spring of water that smells like sulphur.

We hiked up to the top of a hill overlooking the city, ate lunch, and left for Durango. The vistas along the way from Chama, NM and Durango by way of Pagosa Springs were spectacular.
Skiing at Wolf Creek

... He spent an hour with me, one on one, taking me up the lift and even showing me how to jump on and jump off, and skiing right with me, giving me directions on how to stop and start. Well, it turns out all I needed was some professional help because after a while I began to get the hang of it and could ski down the beginners slope without experiencing pain or fear. Thanks Scott, wherever you are! Watching Lance and Steve ski, I still felt like a ski loser, but I'm ...

... next to the San Juan river. The river is currently raging, as snow continues to melt off the mountains. Today, we visited a snowmelt waterfall near Wolf Creek Pass (~ 12,000 ft elevation) and made a short hike up to some good observation points. The water is cold! We tried to go to another hiking spot, but we gave up ...

Chimney Rock and rafting.

... the hot springs was in site. I did mention once or twice (maybe 3 or 4 times??) that we seemed to be drifting closer to the bridge column. Well, darn if we didn't ram straight into it. That of course added a little excitement to the run. We floated past the Pagosa Hot Springs, jealouse of everyone taking advantage of the waters. We planned to be there ourselves this evening, but after dinner we decided to make it an early night. Tomorrow we are heading north to Colorado.

... Falls, in the San Juan National Forest. This is multiple switchbacks trails up to the falls. Kids to senior citizens would enjoy this hike. You can see a part of the falls from the road level, but the thunder and the mist is best appreciated at the top viewing area. If it's windy you will get wet! Best time for that is during the snow melt off. We pulled back into Pagosa Springs and passed the Hotsprings with a quick look. Then...decided we needed to relax. In the ...

... considered a success when we made it back to the truck with all of our bones and equipment in one piece. Later that night, the combination of high altitude and tequila made for a interesting photo session at a local mexican restaurant. The next morning we hit the cross country trails to entertain our dogs and challenge our cardiovascular systems.

... Italian restaurant" **** that I fell for in Holbrook. Not sure why people in towns of less than 10,000 people think Italian is find dining. It's the cheapest and easiest food to make and I avoid it at all costs when I'm at home because to me its a rip off. And its never really good anyway so best to just make it yourself. So I decided to go further into town to pick a hotel since I knew the other three hotels on the West side ...

Courage, Stupidity, Focus, Faith or Fear?

... t know what to think. What all am I sacrificing to accomplish this? Is it all really worth it? I have very few relationships in my life because of the hours I work. I feel like I'm failing in life as a daughter, a sister, and a friend. The only true way I'm succeeding is as an employee at each of my jobs. Is that truly the way my life should be measured? I want to do what I feel God has led me to do, but when certain questions come to mind, I wonder if I ...

Packed (finally) and two days to go.

Well, here we are at two days and counting and I am finally packed. Two suitcases (one large and one small) and my backpack carry-on, not bad eh? I can't believe that in 48 hours I'll be going to bed in my own room for the last time in almost a year. It's hard to think about. On a lighter note, I have been talking quite a bit with both Alaine and Lucia, and Lucia is going to visit the Temple of Poseidon on Monday and invited me to come. I won't be in Athens to catch the group, but Alaine ...

If You See It Once You'll Never Be The Same Again

... every business seemed to work to be friendly to support the tourist industry due to nearby Mesa Verde National Park. Our motel room had several pamphlets dedicated to activities at the park. The town just made me feel at home. It helped that Cortez has a large number of German descendants. Since I'm originally from Kitchener, Ontario (home of the largest Oktoberfest outside of Bavaria) it made me feel comfortable. Unfortunately, we would actually be home soon but we still had some adventuring to do yet.
