    The city not only encloses the entire harbour but takes up the better part of the Gulf of Ajaccio, which is the largest gulf in the world.
    Over 65000 population over the entire area. This city is the birthplace of Napoleon in 1769 who became the French Emperor in 1804 and spread Revolution through Europe and in 1811 made Ajaccio the capital in Corsica.

    Scorching Corsica
    we docked at around 12 noon in Ajaccio the capital city of Corsica. The late start gave us time for a lay in but also meant that the temperatures had risen to an incredible 35-36 degrees. It was gorgeous (well I thought so!)

    ... even though all the tickets are pre sold, and the chances of getting in were slim. Sure enough one ticketing man got a couple of the fellows who were leaving, to go back in and get a pass out, and then passed it onto John.     We awoke on this last day of the cruise to be coming in to Portoferraio! A beautiful clear day in the harbor of the Island of Elba. It is the islands largest city and because of its terrain many of its buildings are situated on the slopes of a tiny hill surrounded on three sides by the sea!     ... which we were warned about at breakfast. The galley was open to the passengers with different chefs being responsible for certain types of cuisine.
