Historical Traveler Reviews of Pacific Palisades Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel Vancouver
Great location/Decor/Friendly Staff
from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is on the corner of Robson and Jervis - right in the heart of the downtown area. English Beach, Stanley Park, Coal Harbour and Gastown are all within walking distance.
The decor is light and modern, which is kept clean and tidy, but not every room has a balcony.
The staff are friendly and the concierge is very helpful. However, as a consequence a lot of guests wanted to see her. Some mornings we were kept waiting nearly twenty-five minutes.
Stay here once a year

I stay here once a year and love it. The beds and pillows are so comfortable, rooms are nicely done. Robson side can get rather noisy and hate the restaurant but with Robson street right outside who needs it?
Pacific Palisades very comfortable

I loved this one. Good location, wonderful colors and textures in the room. Lots of space and a great balcony. Very nice bed linens - important to me. Elevator fast and close by. Excellent location. Nice pool. But -noisy at night with all the 20-somethings on Robson.
Perfect Location

For a first time visitor to Vancouver, this hotel was in the perfect location. It is within walking distance to all the trendy shops and restaurants. The skytrain, Pacific Centre Mall, and the Art Gallery are all about 5-10 minutes away. Canada Place, Gastown, Chinatown, Yaletown, Stanley Park are all about 15-30 minutes away. The city trolley and grayline buses stop at the hotel next door. I did not spend too much time at the hotel itself, but the staff was very helpful when I was there. The room was great and the refrigerator and microwave made things easier. Would definitely stay there again.

The pacific palisades is an art deco hotel with very nice room design. The facilities are nicely designed and decorated and the location is good. Enjoyed the stay there, wish is could've been longer.
Pretty good

We stayed here April 2003. Check-in time is 3pm, but when we arrived then, we learned our room would not be ready for another 2 hours. No remediation was offered. When we did get to the room, it was quite nice. A separate bedroom and living room area, very roomy. The view was spectacular. The balcony was large. I spent every morning on the balcony reading a complimentary paper. The resaurant, Zin, is OK. Very friendly staff, if a bit limited menu. It is not open on Monday's though. The hotel staff in general was quite helpful and polite, from the reservation agent on the phone, to the friendly housekeeping staff who always offered a 'hello' or 'good morning'.PROS: very friendly staff, spacious comfortable rooms, great viewsCONS: room not available at check-in, a hotel restaurant closed all day on Monday (???)
Not Bad

Being a Amerasian Guy. My 3/4 korean girlfriend and I wanted to visit Vancouver to see for ourselves if it was indeed te cradle of tolerance and Caucasian/Asian city it makes it self out to be.....It is. If you're hapa or just like asian influenced cities then go. You will be pleased.OK the Hotel.Me: Furniture designer, refined taste, bargain hunter, $60,000/yr, typical white collar male. The "W" line is too fancy for me, the P.P. hotel was a little too grundgy. I paid $60 a night U.S. which as a steal considering the location, but you give up certain things like a full size hotel room. The P.P. use to be a condo complex and it shows. There are two towers. Only one has internet access, and that one only has it up to a certain floor. The room we had was lime green, and I mean lime green!!! everything was green !! The hotel was a former studio apartment and was pretty tight for 2 people, but again $60 a night on robson's so I don't complain. The attached reastaurant was one of those big plate little food modern too cool for you restaurants. I am a well dressed attractive half asian guy and my girlfriend is a former model. Both in our 20's and we felt weirded out bu this place. I think it was called Zin or Zen or something like that. The staff is very beautiful and friendly they may look like LA elite but thank god they don't act like them. Would I stay at the P.P. again....hmmmm maybe in a few years I'll shell out more for better hotel. Until then I would say a wanna be "W" hotel for $60 bucks isn't bad.
Definitely a Hip Hotel

My family of 4 stayed at the Pacific Palisades during the first week of April and we all loved the place. It advertised itself as part of the "HipHotels" group and it certainly was, from the quirky but extremely friendly and efficient bellman Ken to the room decor and furnishings. Our room had a king bed and queen-sized sofa bed, and both were supplied with real down pillows and duvets. The pool and spa were better than I've seen in any other hotel in this class. We'll definitely return, although with all the great reviews this place gets, the price will probably go up!
Beautiful, roomy and comfortable

We stayed at the Pacific Palisades Hotel in Vancouver both before and after our Alaska cruise in 2002. The price was reasonable, the rooms (mostly suites) were large, comfortable and nicely appointed. We stayed in one bedroom suites with balconies. The location, on Robson, is convenient to both shopping and Stanley Park. The inhouse restaurant is EXCELLENT, one of the best in Vancouver. And the nightly wine tasting is a pleasant plus. I'd make this my regular Vancouver hotel, and we will be going back - the city is wonderful.
Comfortable hotel, good location

We spent a long weekend (four days) at the Pacific Palisades, and found it extremely comfortable; we'd certainly stay there again if we wanted to be in downtown Vancouver.
I'd had the Sutton Place Hotel recommended by others as the place to stay, but wasn't sure I wanted the uptight atmosphere of a downtown hotel. Pacific Palisades proved to be a good fit. The hotel is a former apartment building, so the one bedroom suites feel more like home than (say) an Embassy Suites; the bright, colorful decor also made it cheerier than your typical hotel room. The staff also were quite informal and helpful; I didn't feel like I was in a stuffy hotel. The location was very good; it's at the quiet end of the Robson street shopping district, running up against the houses and tall apartment buildings of the West End. We could easily walk to English Bay, downtown, and the convention center in 15 minutes. Robson Street tends to be one of the teenage/twenty-something hangouts; although it didn't bother us (40), friends in Vancouver pointed out that "we don't go to Robson Street." Nice people watching and good restaurants in the area. Their pool is very good, and had space set aside for lap swimming. Robson Street stayed quite active past midnight; I liked having people on the street late at night (as opposed to the quiet of some of the downtown streets on weekends). Fair number of cafes around during the day, good for breakfast and watching the world go by.
Drawbacks: The location of the hotel tended to keep us towards the west side of downtown, so we never explored Yaletown and other areas east of downtown. For a place that bills itself as a "hip hotel", it was surprising that a good proportion of the tourists were middle-aged Europeans. Didn't see any models or movie stars. List prices are as pricey as many of the downtown hotels, but a discounted rate from an Internet travel site made the price much more bearable for us.
