... of the sea the memorial stands where the fishing village of the same name stood before it was completely washed away. A fishing boat remains as part of the memorial and a golden Buddha facing away from the sea stands guard over the site. Today the village is functioning once more and there were dozens of colourful fishing boats pulled up on the sand.

... back I reached the sea front just in time to enjoy the nearest thing we had yet had to a sunset. Maybe this means that the rainy season has finally run its course and the weather will be drier from now on.

Tomorrow I leave Bang Niang Beach behind and move the short distance into the town, in preparation for resuming teaching duties next week. It has been a most enjoyable few days relaxing by the beach, in no way spoiled by the occasional downpour.
