We left Siam Reap yesterday and got the bus back to Phnom Penh. Sugar, our tuk tuk driver had told us he booked us the best seats on the bus, so there we were right up the front underneath the telly playing very loud Cambodian pop videos! The front of the bus was infested with mozzies, the driver kept leaving the door open so they were all coming in to the cooler air so we entertained ourselves killing them for a few hours. We also had a birds eye view of the road which in this situation was ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia dee2000xThis is our last day in Phnom Penh, we are just about to leave for the airport now. Yesterday we spent the day shopping and hanging around the place - really easy to do in Phnom Penh there are so many cafes and nice places for food. We had a really nice dinner at a Khmer restaurant down by the river and then we went for a few drinks, and on to Heart of Darkness, which is a popular nightclub in PP. Well it was mad in there Solenn got propositioned by a total sex pest and then he turned his att...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia dee2000xAfter saying goodbye to some of our tour group the remaining 5 of us plus our tour leader set off for the drive to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. I loved the drive. It was long, but I spent the time gazing out of the window, watching the world go by. Seeing amazing sights. The land becomes greener and more lush as you head towards the capital. Lots of water, many water buffalo, and ducks everywhere. We stopped at one place for a drink and saw baskets of fried tarantulas. The other day I...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia magswiftYesterday morning we visited the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, in which is housed the Emerald Buddha (the second one, the other one being Bangkok which I've also visited a few times). I much preferred this Wat to the one in Bangkok - there was a greater sense of symmetry and more space about the whole area, whereas in Bangkok the buildings are so ornate and are placed one on top of the other. You do not get the chance to stand back and admire any of them. However here in Phnom Penh there wa...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia magswiftAs we boarded our bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Phen, I noticed vendors selling purified water, fruit and snacks. I thought I would get some kind of snack for the ride. As I looked at the offerings, I realized the woman had a big plate of fried Grasshoppers. "Think of them as chips" I said to myself. Then, on second thought, I decided I would look for an alternative. The next basket was full of fried Black Spider- like insects the size of Trantulas. That pretty well ripped it for me. I thought ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia thomasgillamArriving here has been a nightmare. The boarder crossing was a complete scam! The alarm is sounding and Weeble and Bob are not in the mood for an early morning packing session. Clothes still soaking from washing them the day before, and the torrential downpour meant the clothes would travel as they were. Inside a black bag in Weebles already full rucksack. Bob dashed downstairs to pay the bill while Weeble jumped up and down on the rucksack trying to compress everything. Weeble then lauched d...

... mainly in Cambodia and a bunch of Americans who knew some i knew from uni and was one of there work colleges, really small world! There was also this girl called Jessy, so pretty like properly stunning could easily be a model. anyway she was traveling on her own from Canada and it was her first time ever leaving her country, she had spent months traveling around on her own so pretty ballsy to do that considering she was 19. she was cool and very pretty but miles out of my league ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia michaelspikef... but we all declined. The shotgun though was awesome, we only had 2 shots each unfortunatly but they were so cool. On my second shot i didn't have a good grip on the barrel and the thing smashed into my shoulder as the shot went off, it hurt for a while after but wasn't that bad, i've heard stories of guns breaking peoples arms and stuff so maybe i was luck but whatever. Later on that day, as it was still my birthday, we did what every normal person does and went out and got wasted. :-)
Phnom Penh, Cambodia tombenson... they enforce law when they can personally benefit from it and maybe when they are bored and have nothing else to do. So the red or green countdowns above traffic lights and right of way displays are normally ignored, especially by the moto populous, which is most people, cars are a minority. So if you have 30 seconds until you have the right of way and are able to move off from your position, that actually means, depending on how many people behind you are screaming past on ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia awfullook... knowledge of Thai, and indeed is something of a linguistic genome project, charting the mutations and deletions as one language is cross-bred into another, something that occurs more often with English nowadays. If it weren’t for the Khmer language’s love of consonant clusters and the Thai’s abhorrence of such, you might assume a common source for both. If there is one, it’s ancient.
Whether Cambodia’s the next Thailand or not, a tourist Mecca for ...
