    Happy Independence Day

... day. It was really nice to see. Even walking down the wharf you could feel the atmosphere. It was great to be part I that feeling. We had done some research to find out where the parade and a few concerts were being held in the town. But, nothing was coming up about fireworks. The closest thing to is was Monterey Park, just a six hour drive down to LA. After finding nothing we asked a waitress who told us it's now illegal to have fireworks in the town due to people's houses ...

... decidedly unhappy. The cherries she had bought were now like bullets, and the bottle of water was a solid block of ice. Mel called for breakfast, so we packed ourselves up and drove into the drive in. Two country breakfasts! Bring it on. American TV is pretty dire. As usual there was a TV in every corner of the room. After much deliberation and a quick consult with trip advisor we agreed on Old Fishermans Grotto! - Good choice! Ryan had a seafood dish "Cioppino" which came with some nut crackers...... And a bib!! 5 min walk home then another early night. All that driving and navigating can take it out of you! Tomorrow - Whale ...

    ... as some I don't ever remember.

Last drink at the hotel which by the way, we would recommend. The Vdara is great: customer service attentive (we had a clogged shower drain, and they were up and fixing it), nice suite room with frig, 2 burner stove, microwave, 2 large flat screens, sofa, etc., and spacious bathroom. DOWNSIDE: no casino and no real restaurant. Close to sister hotel, Aria, where there is a casino and restaurants.

    Monterey Bay Aquarium

The Monterey Bay Aquarium was founded in 1984 and is located on the site of a former sardine cannery on Cannery Row of the Pacific Ocean shoreline in Monterey, California. Offshore from Monterey and Big Sur beaches is lots of kelp (seaweed) that floats on the surface but goes a long way down too. In the Aquarium is a huge water tank that shows such a kelp forest. It is two floors high and full of fish including sardines, ...
