Pulled out of hotel at 9:15 with a full day ahead of us. Evan put the wipers on straight up but quickly adjusted into left-hand drive mode. We drove on the 101 until we got to San Luis Obispo where we switched to Highway 1 and headed to our first stop of the day, Hearst Castle. On the way we passed the California Men's Colony. Evan remarked that he would like to live there. I remarked that it's a prison. We got petrol at Cambria for $4.76 a gallon (seemed dear). Darcy ...

What I found slightly odd was the canning element at the aquarium, which seemed to sit rather at odds ...

... well). Some pricey restaurants...all in all it was only maybe 5 blocks long. Having pretty much skipped lunch, we decided to eat at Bubba Gump's (!) for supper. Some of the other restaurants seemed pretty pricey. Oh! Before I forget, in SF and also in Monterey, they have a Ghirardelli chocolate store (they were, not sure if they still are, made in SF...and we were walking towards the old factory when we were in SF, but it was getting cold, and ...

... so we could walk a route suggested by friend Charlotte Fischer, BUT absolutely NO parking spaces there OR in the next three parking lots we encountered. Finally found THE LAST space in Weston Beach Loop. We then hiked back toward the Cyprus Grove area. Fairly easy hike (especially when compared to what Bonna put me through in Pinnical area a couple of days ago). Great seascape, lots of sea lions, and fast moving clouds and fog. Looked like a ...
