Conoeing the Dordogne

We spent the entire afternoon canoeing down the Dordogne. We packed a lunch and found a nice spot along the river to enjoy some wine and cheese. It was so peaceful and beautiful. Every couple of Kilometers was anothe castle overlooking the river. The river was so flat that we could just float along and enjoy the view.

Family, Food and Fun

From the cousins house we moved further west to Neils parents house. They have a place in a beautiful old town. It is an old walled vilage on the hilltop overlooking the valley. The village is full of cobblestone streets, windy narrow alleys and cute little homes. We ate great meals, enjoyed excellent wine and spent time with Neils parents. thank you again for hosting us!

The Dordogne

We left the west coast and headed inland to look for work. We stopped at Angouleme for lunch which had a spectacular view from the old city. We carried on into the Dordogne, and looking for a campsite came across a municipal site in a little town called Argentat-sur-Dordogne. The weather was stifling hot, which that night brought on 24 hours of massive thunderstorms and then 3 days of rain! The Dordogne was flooding and even Argentat lost electricity one night!

the recap

... were some very nice shops and produce markets, great alleys to wander in. There's a very old synagogue -- at least, part of it is old, part rebuilt -- and the "main sight" in town, which is the Pope's Palace. We popped in there, but didn't do the tour...just wandering the streets looking at the buildings and stores was the most fun. There are some very good restaurants, too! The next day we took the car back to the TGV ...

Just arrived in Espalion

... talkative when the camera is out of sight. There are a ton of people walking right now because of french and swiss holidays, and they are teaching us some french, although tams is the only one learning anything, as jeff nods his head and speaks spanish to them, and i nod my head and turn into a really giant hairy mime most of the time. It seems on a walking route people are really in love with walking, and find a spiritual connection within ...

BB, 22nd August

Finally the day of departure from the BB arrives! Plan was to be gone without trace before it awoke, but packing and pondering took too much time for that. Lengthy goodbyes to the Welsh boys and Andy. Everyone else was too busy meditatin. At the last minute before disappearing, Dani ran out with fruit for us. Felt like the spotty kid who gets a momentīs attention from one of the big girls. Why so ...

... Puy. Relief. Le Puy is a beautiful town. It has a crumbling castle perched on a comically craggy cliff in the centre. Find the internet and realise that Betabet is not in Le Puy. Take a bus to a little town nearby then catch two more lifts off kind souls and finally. Arrive.

Week One - beautiful Italy

... 15, 2005 - After breakfast we drove into Greve for the weekly markets in the Piazza Matteotti before meeting Robyn at Mercatale and on to lunch at the historic country home of Count Gianfranco and Contessa Diana Grezzi whose wine estate I Lami is 2 km away from the village of S. Vincenzo a Torri and half an hour from the centre of Florence. A colourful group of women arrived one by one and we were joined by Diana's Italian husband, Gianfranco who 'stopped ...

Cold in Crap Filled Cahors

... town with lots of dogs and um, dog presents. Mel and her poo shoe gave us a chuckle until we saw it outside her hotel room door. Perhaps it would magically clean itself? There is even a dog fountain! We went for a walk around this sleepy town and then visited a market where I bought tomato, brie, avacado and some fruit. Then we did some wine tasting...it was very good but I did not allow myself to buy any. After ...
