... over 1.5 million tourists each year as it is the source of a natural spring. It's wierd seeing a fast flowing river and then walking 50 metres "upstream" and there only being a trickle.. and then a bit further and no water... nothing but a big cliff straight up!

The town itself is nestled in a valley and is particularly pretty at dusk when rocks take on the colours of the sunset ...
Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France darrenhough74... and Rhone. Built in 90 AD it’s hard to imagine all the events that have taken place in this building. Walking around and around, I tried to imagine it filled with 20 000 screaming fans as gladiators ripped apart animals, but it was hard. From Medieval times to the 1830’s, it was bricked up and used as a fortified city. 212 housed and 2 churches made their home ...
Arles, Provence, France 2totango... add details, and as Vincent so skillfully did: show movement and texture with brush strokes. As I photographer, I must only capture what is there. Although I can make some minute adjustments, it’s reality. So many times I wish a tree would just move to the left, the shadow would fall differently, or that a person would get out of the way! In the few ...

Avignon, Provence, France qyzhang... up to a great vantage point to see great views of the bridge and the Rhone valley. After relaxing a bit up top, I made my way to the Palace of the Popes. It was built in the 1300's and was the Pope's residence for a while as it was unsafe to stay in Vatican City at that time. It was massive! It was empty inside and was unfurnished, but you had an informative audio guide that described what each room was and its purpose. It is so neat to see such massive ...
Arles, Provence, France kateb75... feel easier. I could easily explain my problems with connecting, ask for an extra key, and ask about nearby restaurants. How pleasant it is to come home to France :) Now for some pictures. Arles is known for its roman Colosseum. And they still have bull fights in it, just to keep the blood fresh..arg. On the flip side, its also known as the home of Vincent Van Gogh. I know little else about this village ...
Arles, France oracle26... and baths of Constantine... the list goes on. Still having another day tomorrow, we left a few things for the next day and went back to shower and freshen up before the big fireworks show and concert in Place de la Republic. It was Bastille Day today, but you wouldn't know it being out on the streets. We found it interesting that we didn't see any flags or people being patriotic like on our national holiday. But at night when the fireworks were about to ...
Arles, France ksunderhill... outside which is a simple luxury of france that I adore. We headed over to the Roman amphitheater for the Ballet. It was a love story that takes place during the French revolution. There was a lot of typical arlesian costuming and dancing with the ballet but I've seen better ballets. We went to the pub afterwards for a little bit but I headed home early to research the train schedule for Cassis.
Arles and Sts. Maries de la Mer, France lparrin... It was out of this world and the least expensive on the menu. I'll definitely be back there to eat it again before I go home. At 9pm the music festival started and we were still eating so we had a little background music from a group that set up a few feet from the restaurant. A great start to a great evening. We had gone over to the main street and met up with the rest of the IES students. We walked around ...
