Vigo was our last port of call on our cruise and I had given this place little thought and done no research, so it came as quite a pleasant surprise. Its a big place and quite spectacular when viewed from the height of the ship.. We didn't get chance to look ...
Vigo, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands mickinwhitbyToday I´m headed for Vigo on the Northwest coast. Madrid has been good although tiring. It rained yesterday so I spent the afternoon at the Prado Museum. After that I walked forever, took a few pictures and ate some ice cream. If you´re ever in Madrid I recomend the Museo del Jamon, ham and cheese sandwich + beer = 2euros.

Crew Schedules and Hours
We had a crew change today. It occurs almost every other Friday, where two crew go home for a month and two other crew arrive.
Most large yachts operate seasonally for their owners or are available for charter. In both these situations, there are periods of time when the crew can return home to visit their families. Since we live aboard our yacht all year long, the crew doesn't have the ...
... We also had lunch at a very nice fishing village. It is not a surprise that seafood is popular… some of the local favorites are mussels and octopus. …and of course they make a lot of wine, and we sampled some that was delicious. The end of our day was spent exploring Vigo’s old gothic quarter.
Vigo, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands kim_williams... we had our first act of random kindness, when a English bloke in another VW westy stopped and gave us a dozen eggs because his chucks had laid too many! Spain has defiantly grown on us, I think we enjoyed France so much the culture shock was a bit much at first, but they defiantly have the right outlook on life with longer days working but with the long lunch break, then followed by lots of socialising and generally enjoying themselves. I think we could ...
Bueu, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands pihollandOn this last day it decided to rain, since Galicia is the wettest province in Spain I am glad the rain stayed away for most of the trip. We spent the day visiting family and doing last minute errands (like mailing postcards). We also had the best meal of the trip Jo's famous chicken and little potatoes.
Noia, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands carrielynnw... is where people from Spain travel to buy towels (not sure why but they did have lots of towels for sale) and Em & Eric did get a set just to follow the tradition. Tui was a much nicer place and the cathedral was lovely. On the way home we stopped in Baiona an old port city with a cool old fort. We took the walk along the top of the walls (a 3 km walk).
Valença, Northern Portugal, Portugal carrielynnwWe stayed in the home area today. We went to the museum in the church Santa Maria a Nova (the new Saint Maria church, it's only from 1327). The museum houses several older gravemarkers showing the different types of markings found. We also walked the new boardwalk area and saw the rides that are getting ready to be set up for the Fiesta that starts Friday. We came back to PortoSin to walk along the beach and soak up the fresh air and sun.
Noia, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands carrielynnw... fires a few years ago and now the mountain tops are covered with Xesea & Toxo both are beautiful yellow flowered shrub yellow the Toxo is prickly like barberry. We drove back along the tops of the hills so we could get a better view of the windmills. Spain has a higher percent of their energy from wind power than any other country in the world.
Noia, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands carrielynnw... day we relaxed, traded pictures via my computer, hung on the beach, played, drank, and had a great "last dinner"... oh what a time oh what a time. Looks like now i'll be spending my first Thanksgiving away from home in Belgium as Steven is paying for my flight and all to visit them. We all already planned for ALejandro's Bday party and a party so I can see everyone and we will all trade pics and have fun. What was to be an early night since Arne & I were going to hit ...
