Arrived at LAX after a speedy 13 hr 20 min flight. There was a strike at Melbourne airport and even though we were processed with no issues our flight was 30 mins delayed leaving. We had a very smooth flight in the A380 although sleep was a bit sporadic! Booked into our hotel near the airport, freshened up and then went to catch up bus to the local shopping centre. The weather ...

    Urban Safari in LA

... The coolest part of the tour was just driving around in the tour vehicle. Picture a van with the top and windows cut off and replaced with a canopy: that's pretty much what it was. It reminded me a lot of when we were on safari two years ago. We were driving fast up and around hills, through side streets on a mission. The only difference was that instead of "Ooh, zebra!!" it was "Ooh, the house from Iron Man!" Oh yeah, we also saw the house from Iron Man. Turns out it's ...

We decided to drive all the way to CA on Friday so we could have a free day to relax a bit in LA on Saturday. Good Plan!
Balboa Island was a fun place to relax. We walked a couple of miles up the beach and took a ferry over to the island. On the island, there was a children's discovery center where the kids were able to pet a baby shark and learn about ...

... that as we drove through easily recognizable film and TV sets, an amazingly elaborate plane crash scene, and experienced effects such as sudden pouring rain, flash floods, fire explosions and even Jaws the shark coming to get us!

So all in all LA was interesting. The glam our of Hollywood is openly cheap and tacky, but there's still great history there. The magic of Disney Land and the movies all worth seeing but it takes forever to get anywhere and we only saw some of the ...

The Long Day - Part 3 (Los Angeles)

A travel blog entry by sstevens_99 on Feb 08, 2015

... Thankyou MapQuest aka "The PoS" - your stupid app will be downloaded and I will not be using you again. Not only did you not sync what I had created offline, but you saw fit to delete the local copy I had on my iPad. 2 hours work down the drain is more than enough futility for me. I think version 1 of this post was a little more spontaneous - sorry if you thought the entries for this day lacked a little spark, but they've been written twice.. Stupid ...
