Our German friend, Dieter, couldn't reach me thru email. He had to copy his email onto my facebook page with info which included where we will meet and when. I’ve had to rethink how I respond as Facebook responses are very tedious.

I’d gotten a late morning flight, probably not the greatest idea but I thought that it would give me time at home and still get into New York at about 9pm. I got a room at the Extended Stay; a friend had already arranged a good rate for us adjusters. It was about 20 min from the meeting on Friday a.m.

Dale dropped me off at the airport with my 2 large bags, each about 50#, plus roll carry on, Ferrari ...

A couple of weeks ago we did obtain our permits to hike, I got one by phone and the other on-line. I’d say that both ways are easy. A permit is $5/person thru the forest service. We were lucky in the sense that we were able to obtain permits for next Tues, as I found out there were only permits available for that day. Dale and I wanted to go in on Wed but nothing was available and actually nothing is available for some ...

Before leaving Deming, New Mexico we take our little "Tammy Toyota" for her third oil change of this trip! Despite hearing trains off and on all night we wake up feeling pretty rested and it's a beautiful warm desert morning. Heading through southern New Mexico and Southeast Arizona there is certainly not much to see--kind of like Texas!

... but that wasn’t the case either, as I’d left it in Vancouver to try and save space. At least I remembered my deodorant.
