... in California was pleasant as we traveled through pine forests, and even at the higher elevations over “Donner Pass” the scenery was enjoyable. However, entering the Nevada mountains the scenery changed to a brown and barren landscape, and the ride east became very boring. We stopped for the night in the town “Battle Mountain” at “Clark Park”. As we set up camp at 6:00 PM the temperature is 102 degrees.
