    ... Night Market; plenty of markets and restaurants with seafood. Beihai has a large shipyard, but most of the money generated in the city is derived from trade.

    In Beihai, as in Hepu (nearby town), not much visited by foreigners, English is not widespread. However, in Beihai there are expats and if you want to meet them check Tommy’s Bar on Seafood Island or Tony’s Bar in Old Street (according to Chinese guy I talked to on the train).

    ... coconut juice (really yummy, and soothing on my throat - think I am getting ill), and headed south. The intention was to find the number 6 bus and go to a stoney beach that was meant to be quite nice, but I waited for a while at a bus stop that said the 6 came too, and it just didn't.
