We paid 1000RMB each for a private tour to Kaiping with a driver and guide. This was a lot of money, but well worth the money. The Diaolou are multi-storeyed defensive vilage houses in Kaiping, a region of Guangzhou. We went to the Chen Clan Academy this mornng, stunning architecture. This was a temple built by the Chen family members where their youngsters could come and study for their examinations. A fabulous building going 3 courtyards back. There was a lovely museum with a reconstruction of a Guangzhou house and artworks.
... with a little park by the river. We had lunch in a the delightful "Orient Express" French Restaurant where the staff were lovely and helpful. Two old carriages have been made into dining cars. Weather permitting we plan to return for an evening meal during our stay.
