Historical Traveler Reviews Outrigger Luana Waikiki Honolulu
Well, being led to believe this was a three star hotel - one can only but laugh now. On arrival on October 11 we were told there were no king or queen beds available as they were renovating all of their rooms so we were given two double beds. The rooms smelt so bad and the carpet was disgusting. We were booked for 10 nights and checked out immediately (although had to pay for one night as a courtesy as we arrived late afternoon). I will never stay there again. It is cheap and nasty.
Just returned from a week at the Waikiki Terrace and found it comfortable, clean and well-located. Although the pool, restaurant and most other public areas were being redone, we got an excellent price as a result through Hotwire. This meant there was construction noise through the day, but that was a minor inconvenience for us. One elevator was out of order, perhaps related to the construction. The room had a small refrigerator, and a small lanai.
My friend and I vacationed in O'ahu in June 2003. Since I had already visited the island once before, I knew of the nicer areas to stay in Waikiki, but I still did my research on hotels in Waikiki with tripadvisor before choosing Waikiki Terrace. I was very happy with my final choice of hotel.
Super Hotel with super front desk staff
My husband and I have been travelling to Hawaii for the past 8 years and have been staying at the Waikiki Terrace Hotel. We just love this hotel along with the super, friendly staff, as well as Vince, who arranges sightseeing tours. The rooms are very neat and clean. We always had an oceanview room which was absolutely beautiful. This hotel is located close to restaurants and shopping facilities. Waikiki beach was only about 5-10 minutes away walking distance. We were planning on staying here January-February, 2004, but unfortunately, I understand that this hotel is being taken over by Outrigger Hotels. They will be under construction for a while. We will definitely stay here in 2005.
Keep up the good work guys!!!
A wonderful Value
During our recent stay, we found this hotel to be clean, friendly and a great value.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and seemed anxious to make our stay the best possible. We were upgraded to an Ocean View on the top floor and found the room to be clean and in good shape with a great view of the ocean, Diamond Head and downtown Waikiki.
The hotel is within walking distance to affordable restaurants and shopping locations.
I will gladly recommend this hotel to my friends and family and will stay there myself next time I vacation in Waikiki.
I don't know where these people stayed but it definitely was not the same hotel that we stayed at!! The hotel is not one block from a beach.
This place is outstanding...
I had never gone to Hawaii before and so I did a lot of research on hotels in this area. Even with all of the research I did, I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful of a time we had at the Waikiki Terrace. It is in the middle of everything...there is a beautiful park right out back and it is a short 2-3 minute walk through this beautiful park to the beach. Cassel and Kim were awesome. We were upgraded to an ocean view room on the 15th floor, and let me tell you, the view of the ocean and park were breathtaking. I would definitely recommend trying to get an ocean view room on one of the higher floors. There is an unobstructed view of the ocean. Simply amazing. Anyhow, this place is outstanding and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Great, affordable, and clean!!!
This hotel has a great location in the middle of it all....The rooms were very clean and neat, and it was reasonably priced. Employees Cassel, Kim, Abby, and the rest of the lobby employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The lobby is lovely with all the marble and the giant mirror. Kids (ages 11 and 14) liked the pool and the proximity to the beach. Transportation was available and the trip desk was very helpful. Great for a family with fridge and small bar. Balcony was also very nice, especially to watch the sunrise. Paradise BBQ Lunch Cruise (Odessey) was one of the kids favorite. Deluxe Circle Island Tour ("BEST" company) was a great inexpensive tour. Surfing lessons was the absolute favorite of the kids!!! Take plenty of money and do it all!!!
Stayed 3 nights at the WT on a business trip from one of the neighbour islands. Hotel staff was VERY friendly, and even helped with directions (called from the car). Check in went smoothly, and even got upgraded.
Me and my wife were at Waikiki Terrace on September during our wedding anniversary trip. Although there were some hassle from our side when making the reservation (e.g. we came on wrong day etc.) the hotel people were very extremely friendly towards us. We travel a lot due the reason that my wife works for airlines so we have seen a lot of hotels around the globe. We did not know anything about Hawaii or Waikiki Terrace except what we read from guide books and that was not much. We did choose WT since discounthotels gave it a good price and we stayed over a week. Although hotel is rated for two stars we have to say that we received much better service than in some hotels of four or five stars in US or Europe. Perhaps the corridors are not as fancy as they might be but the location is great and all the assistance you might think or need for happy vacation is available at that hotel. I have to mention one person whose name is Brian who was very professional and friendly in everything he did to serve us. The pool is not big but you will not need that much since Waikiki Beach is only 200 yards away. Rooms are spacious and clean. When you leave for airport you may use the shower and luggage storing facilities for free of charge. To conclude this, there might be hotels that look more better outside or have a glamorous lobby with piano but according to our opinion for the price WT is one of the best hotels you can get at Waikiki and we have stayed in others, too. If we come to Hawaii again in the future we will certainly choose WT again. We noticed also that many locals stayed at WT while we were there which gives some indication that we are not alone with our opinions.
