Cnr Cobb & Sturt Highways Hay, New South Wales, Australia, 02---6993-1804
Just a quick stop over in Hay for the night. Hay seems to be quite a farming town with alot of sheep shearing.
It was a very hot day in Hay so it was a great relief to see a nice clean cool pool in Hay Caravan Park. We had a quick dip before having a ...
Hay, New South Wales, Australia jamiesonfamilyWhat a tough day!! Only 133kms, but the wind! Our guess was that it blew consistently at about 40 to 50kms/hour across our left shoulder from the front all the way. It took 6 hours and 11 minutes riding time at 21.5 kms/hour.

And the landscape was flat and barren - the Hay Plains! No trees to speak of, and you could see the road trains and large trucks for 5 minutes in the distance before they went past.

It was dusty and quite hot - a real difference to ...
Hay, New South Wales, Australia gatzby... not even any road kill. In the entire 300km I saw only one dead kangaroo, along with a multitude of (live) ravens, who live goodness knows where, since there are no trees around either. And then, in the midst of this nothingness, you suddenly come to Hay, which seems to be little more than an outpost in the middle of a sheep paddock. It has an abundance of motels, (7 if I counted right), pubs (at least 5) and supermarkets (2), and is ...
Hay, New South Wales, Australia wherever... able to set up and as it looked like a storm was approaching we placed all of our stuff under the roof of the Lawn Bar which we were camped next to. They only have one race meeting a year here which was at the end of October. Very unique this year as due to the Equine Flu there were no horses available so the feature race was a camel race. Stephanie, the stand in caretaker, returned to collect the fee for staying there ...
Hay, Australia georgeescape... trip a little intense. Let's just say trying to stop a 20 foot long RV is not easy. We found a street to park on so we had our place for the night. Got some fuel in the morning and a way we went again. Very short entry but I just wanted there to be a pin for the mpa here.
Hay, Australia seanathon10... what was there, but I guess the nothingness of it all is what truly makes these places and the inland Aussie experience. Lucy took over the driving again, driving into the sunset, steaming down the way, reaching the next settlement, Hay, by sundown. We saw numerous dead kangeroos by the roadside for the first time, and the terrain began to truly resemble the ...
Hay, Australia sianethIn preparation for the drought-breaking rains we were told about yesterday, we slept in. Awoken by bright sunlight streaming through the cracks between the curtains - a nice breeze blowing - a perfect drying day - so off with one set of bed sheets and did a load of washing. Once this was on the line, we headed for Shear Outback, which is a modern museum dedicated to everything about shearing and includes the Australian Shearing Hall of Fame. We spent about a ...
Hay, Australia newtripper... just because they were of German, Italian or Japanese heritage during the early 1940s. I guess also that I did not realize that we had so many Japanese (and other nationalities) Prisoners of War. We have now seen the centers at Tatura and Hay, and look forward to going to Cowra to complete the experience. We wandered around town looking for the old Court House (which is still in use) - the hand drawn map in our booklet has a number of ...
Hay, Australia newtripper... had wanted to have a look in our van, as he is considering getting one the same as ours, but he was a bit late - no way I was going to unpack it to show him - he had had 6 days whilst it was set up. We pulled out of Griffith in fog, headed for Hay. About 20km south we came out into bright sunlight. We passed through Darlington Point and turned right on to the Sturt Highway - this starts from the Hume Highway just north of Tarcutta, and appears to ...
Hay, Australia newtripper... slept most of the way..... I think I got the better deal! We went to the local pub (opposite our camp) and had dinner and a few beers.... I then called home and spoke to my folks and sister... which was nice.... (How are the xmas decks looking?) Stu and I put up our xmas tree today - it is a 90cm fibre optic tree with a few decks - a kangaroo dressed as santa, and koala dressed as santa, and a few other bits.
