      ... couple of hours to walk the streets at our leisure before being picked up and taken to lunch. Izmir, third largest city in Turkey, some interesting sights sounds and smells. Followed by s buffet style lunch, there seems to be a pattern forming....and then on towards Ayvaik and the Grand Hotel ...

      ... non the less interesting and amazing at the lengthy of time these stones have been here. Also on the same site is a 14th century mosque built in the Ottoman style. We returned to Dream Catcher for lunch and then set off to complete the drive around the Biga Peninsular. The scenery is different again to yesterday, as we climbed up the hills the land became barren and scorched, scattered with large boulders and occasionally there were signed ...

      It's cold this morning only 15 degrees! The heater will soon warm us up!
      We are heading for an interesting town on the coast, Ayvalik, behind the sea front there is an old Greek fishing village. During the the 'War of Independsnce' in the 1920's, the Greek population were forced to abandon their homes and relocate to Levos, whilst in turn the Turks from that island were compelled to start new lives in Ayvalik.
      The journey there passed through some lovely scenery, ...

      ... for a lady that doesn't like heights! There are several remains of temples, three excellent mosaic floors, a gymnasium, the site is very large and it takes us 3 hours to explore it all. We drove into the town, most places were closed for the holiday. We found a small shop open and bought some local wine and some helva, this is a turkish dessert that is served on special occasions, it is made from sesame seeds, they are crushed into a paste and mixed ...

      ... getting somewhere...oh no, the street turns into the bazaar! We force our way in past stalls of underwear, towels, handbags until we come face to face with a glass case full of donuts...this is actually a donut truck but driver cannot see us and keeps manoeuvring towards us. Men wave arms wildly, Ian hops out of the car to try to get direction, donut man keeps advancing, Michel and I crying in laughter as Ian jumps back into the car shouting ...
