Only a couple of weeks ago I got informed about a volunteer position onboard the Africa Mercy, i.e. as a Media Liaison Officer. After having discussed this situation with my current employer, I decided to go for it! After the selection procedure, I got the official letter of acceptance: I would serve on the Africa Mercy from Jan - June. A new year, a new adventure!

I only had one month to get everything sorted ...

Ignoring the typical grey sky of a North German autumn we headed out to the spectacular town of Monschau which was established about 1000 years ago. On the way we passed through Holland and Belgium to reach this small German town, an experience that is incomprehensible to an Australian mindset.

Left Zutphen at around 11am after visiting town as explained on the previous entry. Mixed weather big time as you saw. Today we stay in the Ijssel and go towards Hasselt, another medieval town. Beautiful sceneries, on the way but also very wet locks. And at some point, as we accelerated (same as last time) passing a barge, here goes the alarm again. We let the guy pass us and phoned Linssen. We realize that the rpms of the right engine don't go any higher than 2000 rpm - ...

... that pulls me to Dublin. Besides visiting friends there it is the Guinness breweries to meet with The Dark one. Not only that but the fact that there are also still a few traditional whisky houses in the Dublin area makes this probably one of the most exciting trip ...

Took a trip to Leuven with my brother's friend, Andy. Saw the Stella Artois brewery and took a walk around GroteMarkt, the center of the city. They had the most beautiful library and a very impressive city hall. Also, they have the world's largest bar....over 150 feet long! All in all, I would consider it a city for young drinkers; many bars but not too ...
